I am thinking about getting those ones made by the ladies who did "Looney Spoons".

I need some help making tasty meals. I am a pretty simple cook. I don't want anything that takes too much time or is too complicated. But I want it to have flavor and be something relatively normal.

I think you would really like the Rachel Ray 365 cookbook, or any of hers. She makes pretty simple meals that have good flavor. She is known for her 30 minutes meals on the Food Network, and while I have never made one of her meals in 30 minutes, they are relatively quick and simple. When it makes sense she uses prepared items, and is not snobby about her food. You might see if the library has it and give it a test drive ( or test meal so to speak!)

I love my good old fashioned Betty Crocker cookbook--the old style red and white checkered one.

It has all the basics and is a great go-to resource for anything you'll need to know about cooking. It's a great place to start, and perfect for beginners.

This is my current favorite: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/08...ref=sr_1_1/002-3200596-5032851?_encoding=UTF8

Reader's Digest Down Home Cooking: The New Healthier Way. It has lots of comfort food recipes that are usually pretty high fat and calorie and has made changes that make them healthier. My family is particularly fond of the Shepherd's Pie and the Chicken in Pudding (Yorkshire pudding--my husband is British! :teeth: )

I agree with SnowBrite that you should check out the library. That's where I found this cookbook and I liked it so much I went and bought my own copy.

LOL.... just answering the thread title question, not the actual post. :thumbsup2

I have a cookbook called Desperation Dinners and it is my favorite. The meals are flavorful and quick to prepare. They give you a list of ingredients to stock your pantry with at the beginning of the book and each meal takes between 20-30 minutes. Of course, it's a movin' and shakin' 20 minutes but it's worth it! Each recipe has about 9 or less ingredients. Best of all, they are things my kids will eat too. My next cookbook to buy will be Desperation Entertaining :thumbsup2

"The Joy of Cooking" is my bible. There are many quick and easy recipes as well as tips and tools for everything. I could not live without it.

The women who wrote Looneyspoons have a newer cookbook called "Eat, Shrink, and Be Merry". It's every popular on another board I belong to. My favourite cookbook is the Rachael Ray one that Snow Brite mentioned. I actually use it a few times a week and everything always turns out great.
