What is your favorite book and author? (Inspired by the What are you reading thread)

Another" A Prayer for Owen Meany" fan here, it is my all time favorite book! I love John Irving. I also love "I Know This Much Is True", by Wally Lamb.

Those are mine too!!! I also like to read Anne Tyler books.

Don't really have a favorite book, but my favorite author is
Stepen King. :D

I don't really have a favorite book. I love so many that I couldn't choose.

Favorite authors are:

Laurell K. Hamilton
J D Robb
Janet Evanovich
Charlaine Harris
F. Paul Wilson

Add me to the Gone With The Wind fans. Other than that, I dont have a favorite, I will read just about anything.

My A#1, tip top favorite of all time.... Laura Ingalls Wilder and ALL of her books!! It would be no exaggeration to say that I have probably read every book in excess of 50 times. I also have any other book by or about her that I have found, including collections of articles she wrote before she started writing her books. My daughter is named after her..............................P

I think I love every book every one of you has mentioned!! But all time favorite is "Coming Home" by Rosamund Pilcher. Also loved her "Shell Seekers" and "September".

Oh, I completely forgot, I am also a big fan of Gone With The Wind too,and another one is, Fortune's Rocks by Anita Shreve.

This is such a good thread; it's reminding me of all the wonderful characters I've met in the books I've read.:D

Hmmmm..... 2 whole pages and no one yet who is addicted t o Robert Jordans Wheel of Time series????? How shocking:P any way, hes ben my one author you gotta buy as soon as its released since 92 when i discovered them,, Fantasy as good as or better than tolkiens,, seconds fav would have to be the LOTR series,, the books not the movies, love Potter, and am hooked on james lee burkes detective stories for easy to read fiction in waiting rooms at hospital:)

Not sure if I can pick a single favorite, but one that stands out is The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. I'm usually not big into American Classics but this book taught some interesting lessons, and the characters sure are interesting! That Chillingworth is sure hell bent on revenge  I really enjoyed reading this book--and it actually wasn't for a class! :)

I love all books by LuAnne Rice and also by Elizabeth Berg. And I have been a fan of VC. Andrews and Danielle Steele for a long time now.

:D

My favorite book is Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie. It's no wonder Walt Disney wanted to make this into an animated movie. Barrie's original is slightly different from Disney's adaptation, but it's still great.

I don't think I have a favorite author, except maybe James Patterson, but that's only because he and my father are best friends.

Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier ( if I spelled her last name correctly!)

To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee

Any Harry Potter book by J. K. Rowling

Thinking of these books makes me happy:D

All time favorite fiction writer: Flannery O'Connor. Anything she's written I've read several times over and I teach her fiction in my literature course.

Some other standouts for me:

Non Fiction: C.S. Lewis' _Mere Christianity_

Fiction/Literature:
_Light in August_ by William Faulkner
_Dead Souls_ by Nikolai Gogol
_Pride and Prejudice_ by Jane Austin
_Pilgrim's Progress_ by John Bunyan

Children's Fiction
The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling
_The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe_by C. S. Lewis
_Tom's Midnight Garden_ by Phillipa Pearce
_The Man_ by Raymond Briggs (Picture Book)

If you have children you absolutely must read the Pearce and the Briggs book, although the latter is hard to find in the States. Both are simply lovely and timeless.

My favorite author is Andre Dubus, although he wrote short stories rather than novels. My favorite collection of his is probably "Seperate Flights".

My favorite novel....hm.....probably "Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett.

My favorite author is Julie Garwood. She writes such beautiful stories.

I also love Susan Elizabeth Phillips. Her new book "Ain't She Sweet" was wonderful.

Kinda weird how many people love "A Prayer for Owen Meany." If those people have any more book suggestions, I would love to hear them. I have already read the Harry Potter Books, which I thoroughly enjoyed but forgot to mention, and Wally Lamb.

Angela's Ashes
A Year in Provence
All of the Harry Potter books
Lamb. The story of Christ as told by his childhood pal Biff. (you must have a sense of humour for this book. I'm Catholic and really laughed out loud. It's a bit off the wall.)
