what is your favorite and most practical at home work out?

I did p90X for a year and really enjoyed it, but my arms got to be too big for me, and I wanted more lower body workouts. I bought Beach Body's "Brazilian Butt Lift." I know, I know, it has a ridiculous name, but it works! I have loved it since March and I can still get sore from it if I really push myself. I would totally recommend it. It reminds me somewhat if Zumba.

My newest favorite though is a website called bodyrock.tv
I'll warn you, the video and photos of the trainer are provocative. So just be advised. They workouts are similar to crossfit in that they are quick and intense. Most of the workouts are 12-15 minutes. As a mom, I can find that kind of time in my day!

I don't have weight to lose, but I do want to tone up some more. Over the holidays, I ate whatever I wanted, and lots of it. I was worried I would have some hard work ahead of me. BUT- I did the bodyrock work outs every day over the holidays and I was able to maintain my weight. I think that's pretty impressive for 12 mins a day!

Give it a try! It looks tough, but they show you modifications at the end of each workout.

For those who are recommending the Walk Away the Pounds series, which DVD would you recommend buying to get started? I checked out Amazon and there seem to be a whole bunch of different option, but I can't figure out which would be best value for an out of shape beginner.

I have a treadmill, but I have found I get a better workout with a NordicTrack. I found one at a yard sale for $15. It was literally in NEW condition, no nicks or scratches and she said she had only used it for a few weeks before she stopped. She also said she paid about $500 for it back in its day.

I now own it and it is quiet, smooth, and a fantastic workout.

So, if you are on a budget, that may be the way to go.

BTW: I found something out......apparently you have to GET ON AND USE the exercise equipment in order for it to have an effect. :rolleyes1 Still working on that one.

I love Leslie Sansone. I started out using the ones on demand through the cable. I had some knee issues and couldn't do them for a while. When I went back they were gone!

I bought Walk Slim: 5 Really Big Miles. It has a one, two, three, four, and five mile workout so you don't have to start out doing the 5 mile. It also comes with a toning band and she incorporates that into the routine so that you get a full body workout. She is endorsed by the American Heart Association. Love that too. I find them very easy. I am very out of shape. I need to lose around 60lbs right now. I used to work on my feet all day long but have been a stay at home mom for 3 years and was on bed rest my entire pregnancy. I am just starting out again and find this one easy to stick with. I also love that I don't need to be coordinated to do this. I can trip over my own toes.

my other problem... I really should have mentioned. I have an old medial ankle injury that still somewhat limits me. It is just in the last 6 months that I have been able to run without pain ALL the TIME. Now I can run on even surfaces, but I have to really be careful, and pain wise well it just kinda depends. Are these workouts something I would be able to maintain.

Is Walk away the pounds something you use while you are on the treadmill?

I am actually a huge fan of all the Beachbody workouts--P90X, Insanity & TurboFire. I find the workouts challenging but fun, and they give just the right "push" that I need to workout from home.

I also go to www.crossfit.com and follow the workouts on the site daily.

Insanity and I have a love/hate relationship. Oh who am I kidding, it's just a hate/hate relationship! I'm thinking about getting P90X though, it looks to be more than just straight crazy cardio.

Anyone doing Zumba 2 for the Wii? I just bought it but have not opened the box...is it worth opening?

I am a huge beachbody fan, too. Have done Turbo Jam (love it), Chalean Extreme, and just started Turbo Fire.

Thank you! I'm in the same boat. Totally uncoordinated. Can't manage aerobics classes for that very reason. I'll have to give Walk Away the Pounds a try. I was walking outdoors with my neighbour after dropping the kids off at school, but she just got an 8:00 to 4:30 job, so that's gone by the wayside. We talked about going out in the evenings, but it hasn't happened yet. I should be able to manage a workout at home in the morning before the kids get up.

I have arthritis in one of my knees. I can do Leslie Sansone's videos. Though I do have to say, my wonderful doctor talked me into a cortizone shot since the pain was keeping me up at night and there were days that I just couldn't walk on it at all. Now, I am all good until it wears off.

Is Walk away the pounds something you use while you are on the treadmill?

No, you don't do Leslie Sansone on the treadmill. I do it in the living room since that is where I have the most space.

I will say that we have a treadmill and a weight machine that uses the pulley system for the weights. I find both of them extremely boring. I really can't stay on the treadmill for more than about 20 minutes before I am bored to death and just stop. I also used to have a recumbent bike and gave that away. Just didn't like it like I thought I would. My dad and son use the treadmill so I keep it. And the weight machine really should be used by me and Fiance but my DS uses it fairly regularly. I really really want to buy an elliptical but they are pricey and I don't want to spend all that money to have another piece of equipment in the exercise room just taking up space.

My best friend is my "be healthier" buddy but unfortunately she is in SC and I am in FL. She is buying the same DVD and as soon as it comes in we are going to do it together over Skype in the morning before DD gets up. Yay for 6am workouts! :rotfl:

I do the Jillian Michaels videos, but I also have a Kathy Smith video named Total Body Lift that I really like. It is toning video, so you won't really break a sweat but you will have trouble walking up the stairs the next day!

I would really like to find something fun and motivating to get me started. I just turned 44, and starting to feel some aging !!! lol.....but whats a good starter DVD or wii game?

Actually, Walking Away the Pounds Cardio, is very much more than just walking around the block ( a favorite saying of Leslie Sansone). It is a very good workout for me and "works". I feel better, have toned up, and lost weight. The great thing is you can do it whenever you want, no matter what the weather is like outside - I love it :thumbsup2 I have an elliptical machine also and it is great, but I get bored quicker.

 Insanity!! The workouts are challenging, but you feel amazing afterwards and it you see results pretty quick.

Anyone doing Zumba 2 for the Wii? I just bought it but have not opened the box...is it worth opening?

I just got the first Zumba for the Wii, having never done a Zumba class, and tried it. It required WAY more coordination than I have. :sad2: I may try it again at some point. But if you have taken a Zumba class before, you might really like it. The music was at a good pace, and you are just looking at silhouettes of people which I really liked.
