I am getting ready to book a package and cannot decide if I should book the standard view room at DLH. We usually spend the extra money for an upgrade to Premium view in Dreams tower. DD2 loves watching the people and seeing the fireworks. But this trip, we probably will spend afternoons by the pool since DD is old enough for the pool this trip! I cannot really justify spending the extra $185.00 on the upgrade. FOr those that have stayed in the standard view rooms what were they like , how was the view, are there any in the Dreams tower? TIA, Tina

We've booked standard views on our visits (4???), and have always been "upgraded" a view - DTD a couple of times and the pool the other times. We do always request the building closest to DTD though - we know there isn't a parking lot view in that building. The check-in CM might have said something about the standard view, but they still checked to see what they could do for us. It ever hurts to be nice to the CM and ask.

Well I have only stayed at the Disneyland Hotel once, on my honeymoon.
We were upgraded to the honeymoon suite! That thing is big and nice. PLus it was on the corner so we had a pool view and a park view.

YOu are so right about CM's. We met some really nice ones on the last trip! We were dreamed once, and even after a rare incident with a seemigly unhappy employee in a food court, a (cannot remember what they call their supervisors, lead , I think) anyways we told him of the rude comments the disgruntled employee made and he said wait right here. He came back with a front of line pass that he filled out in front of us. It allowed us to walk right on every ride for the remainder of the night! NOw that was awesome! Who knows maybe we will get an upgrade. I just detest views of parking lots, lol! But I guess you take a chance!

Now that's customer service!!! I'm a firm believer in taking care of the complaint at hand right away instead of waiting then complaining about later:)
when they can't do anyting about it after the fact.

I quite agree! The incident happened at Toon Town. I had purchased some food for my DD2 to eat. It was about 6p.m. and we had just left the parade. DBF and I were looking for an available outside table for her to eat at. A cm (JOse was his name)was sweeping near a table that had the umbrella closed on it. We asked him if we could get some help opening the umbrella b/c there were no other tables open. He said that it was almost time to close down and that he was not gonna clean it all over again. :scared1:

I said to him, trying to keep my cool, "There is nowhere else to eat and my daughter's pizza is getting cold". He said that if we wanted to open the umbrella we needed to do it ourselves! At that point I called him a useless *! Sorry any children that were there that day, I do not usually talk like that, lol!My DBF opened it and immediately went to search for the lead. I had no idea they could write a pass like that. The lead was sincerely embarrassed by the other CM's words and apologized profusely! Like you said , that is customer service!

We just got back from a trip to Southern CA, we spent our last 4 nights at DLH in a standard room. We were on the 2nd floor and had a view of the car park on looking towards the Paradise Pier hotel (Wonder tower I think) It was a crappy view unfortunately we were not lucky enough to be upgraded, did we care? No- the kids loved the pools and the grounds, I loved being so close to the parks and DTD and not having to walk down the street late at night when we had finished at the parks ( we started at HOJO's great hotel but I hated walking back at night just me and the kids! I felt much safer in DTD ) I will say the rooms could do with upgrading but I still loved it!!! crappy view and all...:rotfl:

I can totally understand not wanting to walk that far at night! I am hoping for an upgrade, but if not... I will be okay with what we get. The pool will keep the kids happy!

On my first stay at DLH I was in the Marina tower with an amazing pool view. (I did not make the reservation so I'm not sure if this is considered a standard view or not). On my second stay I was in the Marina tower again with a view of the parking lot. However, if I looked out to the right I was able to see the fireworks.

Our family was at DLH 4/25-4/28 we had a standard room with view of parking lot, but you could open the slider and look to the right to take in DL view. Fireworks were cancelled one night and not scheduled another two, but I bet you could have seen them from our room.

Either way my boys 12 & 15 could care less about the view. It worked out just fine for us.

It was my birthday trip and the hotel cast took care of us in many other ways to make our visit extra special!

I'd have no problem returning to the standard view/parking lot room any time.

Loving this post, thanks to all for your input! We'll be staying in a DLH standard view room in June, so I am enjoying your responses.

A little off topic, but I wanted to add that I stayed in the PPH 5 or so years ago with a friend and we had a CA view. While it was really great to see the rides and the park at night, it was also a huge bummer to see the CMs coming to work in the morning behind the fence, ELP going into the back lot, and more behind the scenes stuff. Not that they were doing anything wrong, it just ruined the magic for me. For that reason alone I have no desire to stay in that hotel again. Anyone else feel this way?

Just don't count on being upgraded...if it happens, then great, but chances are it won't happen. This is because they get really booked up, and have to keep those rooms open. We typically pay extra for the view room, but the times we haven't (and hoped for an upgrade) it NEVER happened.

Son, daughter in law and our 3 grand daughters got upgraded to the family suite from a standard. We always request the dream tower anyway, it's our favorite. Anyway, it was awesome! the girls had their own room with their own tv and bathroom with an ajoining foyer. They loved it!

Last year we had an awesome view of the Fireworks from our standard room view. Really nice, like having a front row seat to it. We loved it. Better then the pool view we've gotten.

That was in the tower with the front desk (used to be Marina, can't remember the new names LOL).
