What is your best reply when people say "let me guess, going to Disney AGAIN?!!!"

My favorite response when anyone asks 'are you vacationing at Disney world again?' is to put on my best confused look and answer 'there are other places?' Followed by 'oh yes, Paris, Tokyo and California have parks too, someday I'll get there.'
People stop asking eventually.

I ask them where they vacation most often, then turn the tables on them and ask why they keep going back to the same place year after year.

Then I say we return because of the many different activities, the great atmosphere, consistently great service and did I mention the fun and relaxation.

In my case, my friends aren't being rude........ I get the feeling that they just don't get it. You can hear it in their voices over the phone and it does make me feel a little bad like I'm wasting my money by going to WDW every vacation. I want to try to sell it to them to let them know how magical WDW can be and just how many things WDW has to offer. I hate that my dear friends are missing the whole concept of Disney. I just want to shake some sense into them. And then I realize that they'll probably never get it. They've been to WDW before so they know it's not just an amusement park. It makes me so sad for them to be missing out on such a wonderful find. :( So I normally just keep quiet and don't talk about it too much. These same friends have season passes at football games (only 2 seats, so now that they have children, cannot bring the kiddies like I can to Disney), or beach timeshares, or they travel all over Europe and Asia w/ their children (well, I can't do that to a 2 yr old and 5 mo old....... 2 hours on a plane is ENOUGH). So I just let it be.

After I joined DVC, I had some friends and family who came out of the closet as DVC owners. Sounds like they might have run into the same responses we have and kept quiet until they found out we were buying points. At the family Christmas Party my DH's cousins then insisted that only 300 pts would do and my DH gave me the ok for an add-on! I love those cousins. It's amazing to me that when you do catch up w/ someone who's a DVC member, just how much the conversation starts flowing. It's hard to get off the DVC topic when you finally find someone who gets it like you do.

Our families are pretty great about our trips to WDW. My family took me every year since I was 2 yrs old thru 18 (and to the previous poster: I still loved Disney at 9 and 12 and 15) so they understand that they are the ones who gave me this addiction even though they have since "moved on" and now live in Tobago in the West Indies........ Why they would move so far from WDW, I have no idea. It's in my blood. And my DH's family fell in love w/ Disney when we took them 4 yrs ago. Since then they are happy for us and understand our addiction.

I loved WDW as a little girl when going w/ my parents, I loved WDW more when going w/ my DH before kids and enjoying all of the Romantic aspects of Disney, I loved WDW even more when I started traveling w/ my own children experiencing all those wonderful things for the first time w/ my son. I never thought it would get better than that. This last time... I went as a DVC member and it was better than that. I am sure when we are traveling alone again as retirees that WDW will be just as much fun for us. I guess I shouldn't have to explain to people why I love WDW so much, but then again, I want my loved ones to experience the happiness that I do. I only want the best for them. My DH says that it is a good thing though that a LOT of people don't get Disney. He said if they did...... WDW would be very crowded and we'd have a difficult time getting a villa. :crowded: So when I think of it that way, I am now thankful that those people go to the beach and Las Vegas and such..... just leaves us more elbow room. :)

Bali: Not that there is anything wrong w/ being single...... but wouldn't it be neat if you met someone while on the boards or at WDW w/ the same love of WDW that you have? Talk about a love connection!!!!! :love2:

...am surprised that people are shocked that we go to WDW as often as we do, but it's O.K. for folks to go to Las Vegas a few times a year where drinking, gambling and womanizing is encouraged. Even their new motto is "What happens here, stays here." Go figure.

I think I just decided where I'd like the next offsite DVC to be built. :cool2:

We're lucky in that our family and friends get it. For other people, we just tell them "we're taking so and so" for their first trip/wedding present/graduation/etc. OR "this trip is for us...last time we took...."

It helps too when you explain a week at WDW is still cheaper than a week's rent at a house on the jersey shore.

Since I wrote the WDW Trivia Book, every time I go, I just tell people it's for "research purposes!" :p

Someone had said on a similar thread once before, "For those who get it, no explanation is necessary. For those who don't, no explanation will do."

This is so true. I have a coworker whose daughter and SIL just bought DVC (he is obsessed). She can't possibly fathom why anyone would want to go to Disney 4 times in 4 months (they took 2 short trips, a cruise, and another short trip). I said to her, "Would you say the same thing to your family about their houses at the Jersey shore? Why are you going back again this week/weekend?" I try not to be too defensive, but I also don't understand why people are so critical of those who vacation at Disney regularly. Almost everyone I know understands or at least doesn't question me. As far as the others go, I guess they really don't get it at all.

I am giving up our annual trip this year because I'm going with my daughter's Italian class to Italy in November, but I've got a big trip planned for my entire family in November 2005. They all "get it". That's why we're all going together. And that's all that matters.

I recently found out that my family and friends are speculating that I have a new boyfriend in Orlando - I wish!

I tell them about all the non park things that we do. The great fun we have in the parks and I am tempted to say "Jealous are you?" But often these same people come back to me for advice when they are planning their trip!:wave2:

I feel almost embarrassed these days when I tell people that we will be out of town on vacation. People right away would say, Orlando? Disney Again!!!!
...
What is your best defense?

My answers, depending on ow I feel:

1) Yes, we have a timeshare there and we love it.

2) Yes, we go all the time, do you have a problem with that?

3) Yes, you don't? Sorry.

my responses....

Jealous?

I'm in a long distance relationship with a mouse!

WDW is my "home", I'm just here visiting on Cape Cod!

Where else could I find a WDW addict like myself to go out with.

There's no place like home.

:wave2:

We get" You know there's more to see in the US than Disney World"!

My answer is "I Love it and wouldn't want to be anywhere else. I'll see the rest of the US when my DVC runs out"!

I also make sure never to invite "these people" with us on vacation. You know the ones with comments. They just won't get it! Thank God theres a support group that understands!

:teeth:

What I get tired of hearing is "what are you going to do when your son get's too old, and doesn't want to go anymore"?

I simply smile and say as sweetly as humanly possible....

"who cares? My husband bought into the DVC for me; not my son".

And that's the truth. Long before we had our wonderful son who I adore, I LOVED WDW!!!!! I would drag DH there as often as possible.

When people; especially my boss say "going to WDW again" I just look at them and say "yep I sure am" and end the conversation.

My usual response is "yep, bet on it!". ::yes::

I like to share all the adventures to be had at EPCOT and then the fantasy world of MK, and the great animals at AK, and the movie related things at MGM.

I tell them that this is my way of escaping reality, if only for a little while. I am never going to grow up!

So many things to do and see and adventures to take.....

WDW for ever!

:p
