I was on another forum and this was the question asked.... and here was the response from the guy who posed the question:

- Fire extinguisher
- Gas mask with toxic fume cartridges
- Weapon (I won't go any further on that)
- Backpack with all essential items to survive for at least 3 weeks, and run my business (spare Netbook is in there as well).
- All important documents, IDs, debit cards, scanned onto a secure flash drive

:scared1:

Wow :scared1: I feel completely unprepared now. I have some pictures of my kids as babies, my glasses, the remote, and some random crafts the kids have made.
Whatever that guy is prepared for, I hope he's wrong.

:scared1: where does he live?

I feel very unprepared now, as I don't have any of that within reach of my bed. In fact, I don't even have most of that stuff.:lmao:

But to play along:
clockradio
lots of books
stuffed elephant from childhood (unless DD7 has borrowed it:goodvibes)

For me at arms length is a flashlight, step out of bed and into the bathroom.

For DH is his glasses, a light, the TV and DVD remotes, alarm clock, chapstick, and some reading material.

Ah........interesting! Here I was going to say a book, bedside lamp, and chapstick.

Nothing like getting "up close and personal" - LOL..:rotfl:

My bedroom at the lake is narrow and long - so there are quite a few things within arms reach:

Fire extinguisher
Purse and all contents
Flashlight
Medications
Books
Telephone
Kleenex
Inhaler
Digital Camera on charger
Alarm clock
TV with VCR

Small dresser with:
More books
Binoculars
Bill box
Police scanner
Sewing Kit
Maps
Telephone books
---------------------------

I think that's it..:goodvibes

Mine:

A lamp
Books
TV remote
Toe Nail Clipper
My meds
A cup
Flashlight
A phone
A golf club - a 4 iron to be exact.

On my side, side table with drawer and shelf underneath. On top there are two "fake" books (boxes to look like books) contents not to be discussed. On top of the books is a lamp. In the drawer is saline nose spray, kleenex, book I'm reading, and some tylenol (not sure why, since I can't take it without water). On the shelf is a green glass bowl, with nothing in it.

On my husband's side is a small table, alarm clock, and a book he's reading. During the night, his cell phone sits there, as well.

why do I feel that my answer should be night vision goggles, small weapon, short-wave radio, freeze-dried food and a gallon of water???

in actuality it is much more "boring?"...
lamp, water bottle, phone, candle, books I haven't read yet. DH has a lamp, the alarm clock and remotes

...Whatever that guy is prepared for, I hope he's wrong.

Uh, a baby monitor, chapstick, and earplugs (for when I want to ignore the baby monitor).

Someone needs to explain to this guy that if he does in fact need all (or any) of that stuff, he won't need to worry about running his business anymore, so he wasted all that money on a netbook when he could have just gotten an iPhone instead!

...

Whatever that guy is prepared for, I hope he's wrong.

I don't know the guy personally, but I know him from the internet for 3 years... He is a GENIUS alchoholic. And he used to write software for the military for weapons.

OK, I am not prepared at all, I have:
Phone
Table lamp
alarm clock
TV/satalite remote
iphone charger (at night with phone attached)
DS lite
book
Jewellery box
Deodrant
hair brush
Sewing kit
make up bag
My tiara from my wedding (really no reason for that to be there, I just never put it away!!)
Box of cat food treats (stops them miowing at an ungodly hour!)

A german shepard and my dd11 has the other german shepard within her arm's length.
ok, I have a phone and a weapon. Several years ago, someone tried to break into my parents house when I was a teenager, into my room with me in it.

Oh and my alarm clock is far from the bed, so I actually have to get up and turn it off or I would be continually hit the snooze button.

I don't have much within arm's reach of my bed... pretty minimalist actually.

I have a few library books, the newest National Geographic, an alarm clock, a phone, 3 remotes, and (on the floor next to the bed) a small laundry basket of clean socks that I have been too lazy to sort/fold. For some reason, on the floor on DH's side of the bed is his bowling ball/shoes in their bag. Why? Don't know. Sudden 3 AM urge to work on his spares, maybe??
When we are actually *in* the bed, there will also be DH's glasses and usually a glass of water or iced tea nearby.

The guy in the OP thread sounds like he is armed for the apocolypse! I am armed for a good night's sleep. Within reach of my bed are lamp, alarm/clock radio, earplugs, eye mask, sleeping pills, ibuprofen, bottle of water, book and book light. It's my own little nirvana.

My table is a bit cluttered but it has the following: PHONE/ALARM CLOCK/3 BOTTLES OF LOTION/ CUP OF WATER/POWDER/ A CUP WITH DISNEY PENS AND MARKERS/JAR OF NUTS/PONY TAIL HOLDER/ AND DUST! I don't think I am ready for a war as yet....:confused3
