What is Toy Story Mania like at rope drop?

Normally I like to line up at the parks 45 min or so before rope drop so we are at the front of the pack. Planning to arrive tomorrow around 8 am (when it opens) so will be further back. If we go straight to TSM, what will the wait time be like? Thinking that will still be our best bet of riding (we are staying all day)

with opening at 8 it shouldn't be to bad yet if you get there at 8 another good time to ride is during WoC

We always head to TSMM at rope drop (sometimes after I grab an RSR FP). The line is the shortest it will be all day. The only obstacle is if it is not open right at opening.

in october, we went straight to radiator spring fast passes, rode soarin' and then headed to toy story. we rode it 3 times in a row with only 5min wait.

It is short unless RSR and Screamin' are down. We stood in a 30 minute line just because it was the only thing open.
There have been a few times Toy Story is down at rope drove.

Well we did it at rope drop in October and there was a fair size crowd "walking with purpose" to TSMM. When we got there a CM was opening up the extended queue that snakes in the back. This was on a DCA MM so there were already people in the park. So I would say we waited like 15-20 min which is better than the 40-50 min it would have been later in the day. But it wasn't a walk-on at rope drop like in years past when every single person pealed off to go to RSR. A fair number are now heading down to TSMM b/c RSR fast passes are lasting for several hours after opening.

last trip we got there for rope drop and was lined up near the round about .. the boys headed straight for screaming.. I detoured for RSR FP and then met them at TSM .. our line wait was about 10 mins at that point.. not bad at all.

Toy Story stays open during WOC, and I agree it is an awesome time to ride! The line doesn't completely disappear, but it stays fairly short and you get to watch the backside of WOC while you wait!

Then it will grow to about 45 minutes or more and stay that way all day until World of Color. When the Disneyland version of the magic band system comes in, hopefully this and Peter Pan, will be the first rides that benefit from it.

I can see them adding it to TSMM. But where would they squeeze in a FP return line for PP?

Just an update for you. I was there yesterday on a very busy day. I arrived at the turnstyles 7:25. At about 7:35 they started letting people in. I was about 10 back, but after I got through, I walked down the main street and then kept right and was first at the rope near soarin' (everyone was lining up for candy canes). I was planning on heading straight to TSM that way, as I find it less traffic. But my friend I was meeting was a bit delayed. So I made a game time decision to ride Soarin' first instead and then go meet her. I was on the first ride of Soarin of the day, and then my friend arrived around 8:30, then washroom break, a few pics, got Soarin' fastpasses, and WOC fastpasses. We arrived at TSM around 8:45-8:50 and waiting about 15-20 min. Which was not bad at all. Definitely shows how Rope Drop is so important, even more so on busy days!

I don't want it either but people say its really coming. From what I hear its not going to be implemented the way they do things at WDW. No long term fast passes are going to be a allowed. Everything will be same day and you have to be in the park to use it. Also the paper fast passes will still be available. But that is just the rumors I hear. God only knows how/when it comes but Disney spent an absurd amount of money on the technology so heads will roll if they do not use it in some form or fashion.

Nope TSMM stays open and I think the carosuel and maybe even mermaid and the good thing about watching during WoC is its dark and not hot!!

We have walked quickly to TSMM 3 times right at rope drop. Here were our experiences:
- One time it was closed and we felt like we had walked way too far to find that out during precious moments of our day (considering the park was only going to get busier).
- One time it was quiet and we rode twice in a row. We would have waited just 5-10 minutes to ride a third time but our arms were tired.
- One time they saw my cute kids (dressed up extra cute for Dapper Day) and designated one of them the SHERRIF for the day by giving him a badge and telling us our whole party could go on the ride as many times as we wanted all day. They also gave us special WoC viewing tickets too. What a great surprise!
