What is too young for the dolphin encounter in Nassau?

I will have a 4.5 year old and one who will have just turned two. Just wondering if it will be worth it to try the dolphin encounter figuring only the 4 year old will get something out of it or would it be better to do something like go to the Atlantis and play on the beach.

it depends on if you think your child would be thrilled to be that close to a dolphin or not? My neice was 4 and she was scared. It would be a bummer to spend that kind of money and not do the excursion.

We went on the 4 day cruise last month and my son turned 4 the day we went on the Blue Lagoon Dolphin Excursion. He loved every second of it. My husband did hold him during our time in the water as it would have been too deep for him to stand in. It was also very cold, but they offer short sleeve wet suits that seemed to help. Our son watched what everyone else was doing before it was his turn, and he wasn't the least bit apprehensive. Then again, he has had experience feeding and touching the dolphins at Sea World. He is also not the least bit timid in new situations.
He also loved playing on the beach at the Blue Lagoon after our dolphin encounter. You could always do the Blue Lagoon Beach Day and book a dolphin excursion while you are there if your 4 year old seems interested.

Does mom or dad have to remain either at the beach or some other place holding the two year old while the other goes out with the older one?

I'm really not sure how that would work. I know you have to be at least 3 to do the excursion. If both mom and dad wanted to do it, I don't see why they couldn't let you take turns holding the 2 year old. There is a long wooden bench near the lockers that overlooks the encounter area you could sit on and watch (and take pictures!) and then switch. It's a good 5 to 10 minute walk from the encounter area to the beach area. There are also a couple shops that are very close by that sell pictures and some t-shirts, etc. you could walk around in with your 2 year old. I'm sure they've encountered this situation many times before and they could answer your questions for certain if you call to book it. My 2 boys absolutely loved this excursion, and we will definitely do it again when we cruise again. My husband and I did the dolphin excursion in Cozumel last November, and the Blue Lagoon encounter was so much better. Have Fun!
