What is the worst part about going to DL in the rain?

Hi Everyone!

DH & I are thinking about taking our DDs to DL tomorrow for the day, however the forecast predicts rain. DH says it will still be fun and hopefully not as crowded as a normal Friday. We have gloves, hats, scarves, raincoats, rainboots, etc. for our girls. So even if they get wet they'll hopefully stay warm. We only live an hour away so if it gets really bad we can always come home.

In your opinion what is the worst part about going to DL in the rain? For example do they still have the fireworks in the rain? Or the electrical parade at DCA?

TIA!
Sasha :)

Worst part about DLR in rain: WET SOCKS

Best part: NO CROWDS

The only rides that should be affected (closed) are Alice and Teacups. If the rains get too heavy, you may see Pooh and Autopia close down. They will not run parades if it is raining, but will do the Rainy Day Cavalcade (truck with DL characters on it). Fireworks may or may not be shown, depending on winds.

No fireworks, parades or outdoor shows or anything outdoor at all. It's the only thing other than cold that's bad about the rain. Enjoy no crowds!

You have to be careful when sitting on rides, if you don't want wet "bottoms" (very uncomfortable!) :D

I must admit, I am in the minority on this board about going to Disneyland in the rain - especially HEAVY rain like we have had here in SoCal today - I do not like it. Yes, it is nice that the crowds are light, but to me, it is just too messy. In addition to the wet bottom syndrome that a previous poster mentioned, you have to carry around cumbersome rain gear and if you like to take pictures, it can be a pain to whip out the camera in blinding rain, not to mention it can be tough to get your group to pose for such pictures. If you want to eat outside, even with an umbrella overhead, that is virtually impossible to do without getting your food wet. See, if I were JUST going to the park for rides alone, and if I had many other days to go during the year, one day of rain might not bug me. But I like to shop, eat outside, take lots of pictures, and walk leisurely around to observe all the details, and I find that none of that is possible for my group and me during a downpour. When we get into a shop to look around, we are dripping over everything and there is no place to leave an umbrella. To ME, it is just a pain. I LOVE cold weather when we have it. I love to bundle up in warm clothes. But heavy rain is not for me at the park. But as I said earlier, I am pretty much alone in that, as it seems everyone else on this board not only tolerates rain at Disneyland, but sometimes goes there specifically when it rains to get on lots of rides, crowd-free!

Worst thing: lightening! If it starts to lightening, they will shut down rides left and right and you'll be left with next to nothing to do! I had always heard DL is fine in the rain -- you can do all the inside rides. Well, when it rained on us the lightening was popping and they closed down Haunted Mansion, Buzz Lightyear, etc., etc. We ended up hanging out in the shops, eating lunch, and heading back to the hotel for a nap. Thankfully the skies cleared and we had a great evening in the park. :)

Worst part: puddles and chairs or seats were wet.
BEST PART: no crowds and very little to no wait time!!

Also want to add, we were really prepared for the rain. We had a rain cover for our double stroller so the boys didn't get wet. We all were prepared with the right jackets, hats and shoes. Have fun!

Just be prepared and have fun with it. I would suggest (especially with kids) bringing an extra set of shoes and socks for everyone, it will be valuable when everyone is wet down low and might save the day!

Go get some 99 cent panschos to stay dry and keep your butts dry from wet seats on rides.

I'll be in the park tomorrow, I say bring the rain!!

My son and husband went on it 3 times in a row, but they said the rain really hurt at that speed. (don't know why they went on it 3 times in a row? Must be a man thing)

Thanks so much for your quick replies!

It looks like we'll be going for sure tomorrow. Our girls are so excited! I think we're pretty prepared for it. Plus I was able to make lunch reservations at Blue Bayou. When I called Disney Dining they said they were wide open all day. Woo Hoo!

Would love to be close enough to be able to go in the snow(if that ever happened.)
5 degrees here this AM.

We went to DL yesterday and it ended up being one of the BEST times we've ever had there. I hadn't seen it that empty in at least 10 years. It was perfect! And the best part is it didn't rain all day long. A few drops came down around 3:00, but I wouldn't even consider it real rain, and it only lasted for about 20 minutes. It was cold, but not freezing. Our girls were bundled up so they didn't even notice the cold. We walked on all the rides and even got to ride multiple times. On Splash Mtn & POTC we had the entire boats to ourselves, and there's only 4 of us.

Plus, thanks to our DD's raincoat, it gave her the extra inch of height she needed to be able to go on Splash Mtn and she LOVED it!!!! That's all she kept talking about all day long. In the picture they take, all of our heads are completely down, except for DD3 who was the one with her hands up in the air and the hugest smile on her face. It was really priceless! I normally wouldn't do anything to boost DD's heights since I know the restrictions are there for a reason, but DD3 has been dying to go on this ride for 2 years now and everytime we go she has us measure her but she's always too short. Plus DH promised that he would keep his arms tight around her, which he did.

We had lunch at the Blue Bayou and got a table right by the water. The girls were waving at all of the boats and they brought DD a free dessert for her birthday. It was really pricey (almost $90 for lunch for the 4 of us), but I must say it was worth it. At least for a one time thing. DH ordered the Monte Cristo and loved it and I got the chicken and it literally melted in my mouth, plus those potatoes. Yum!

We got to see both the electrical parade & the fireworks, and we had front row seats for both. We got to the electrical parade 10 minutes before it started and found an empty bench right away. The electrical parade was literally at our feet. The girls thought it was great! We also got to see Aladdin and it was the first time our girls were old enough to "get it" and they really liked it.

When we got to the car at 11pm our girls told us that it was the best day ever. What can be more rewarding than that? I highly recommend going when the weather is cold and rainy. We found the real "secret" and we would do it again in a heartbeat!

DH, DD(almost 5), DD3 and DD#3 on the way

That's wonderful!

It was a beautiful day in San Diego yesterday (but windy), and I kept thinking I should have gone to DL. :)

sasha, I was there on Friday too, and it was a truly great day to be there! Very very cold at the end of the evening, but wonderful otherwise! Rain is your friend! :)

Worst part? Other people whining about the rain. And if I get caught out in shoes and socks instead of sandals. If you wear sandals in the rain, your feet dry quicker.

There is no worst part except that more of your fiends were not there to enjoy the fun!

We finally wer able to enter the park yesterday and it was so empty we rode on the back seats of Thunder Mountain 5 times in a row before getting off.

Everyone loves a beautiful spring day but some of the advantages of inclement weather visits are just fantastic!
