What is the worse thing about POP Century?

hate to say it, but there is more riff-raff at POP

That's kind of harsh to generalize people. The reason we stay at the Value resorts is not because we have to, but because our kids enjoy them more and that's what our trips are about....our children!

Well, here's another "riff raff" family. We own at DVC (BCV and OKW) but have enjoyed two trips to POP. Our DD, 5, absolutely adores Pop Century and thinks it is right there with BCV for fun.

We love what we get for the money and won't hesitate to stay there again. I'm thrilled that Disney can provide an affordable place to stay where kids of all ages can have fun.

Add me to the list of Pop fans!

The only thing that slightly bothers me is the sight of the unfinished Legendary Years buildings across the lake. I hate how creepy and abandoned they look! I try not to go over to that area!

Other than that though...I'd totally recommend it!

See that you leave tomorrow for DD's first WDW trip! How exciting! Enjoy the precious expressions...they are priceless!

The only thing we didn't like about Pop was that it didn't have a balcony overlooking our savannah! To counter that, AKL didn't have frozen cokes in Mara!

it means more commoners, less-affluent types.

Wow! I'm not exactly sure what to say. I do feel extremely sorry for you that you make judgements about people. Yes, I know we all do it, but it's not fair to categorize certain groups of people or places.

I would add that I have stayed at POP. The other times I stayed at Disney, I was with my parents so they paid for a more expensive hotel.

I know I'm not riff raff. I have three college degrees and have graduated with highest honors. Would you like me to show you my two teaching certificates and two endorsements, as well? (And if you're wondering why I'm staying at a value resort...well, first of all, I love the values and, secondly, it's because I paid for my education on my own. I worked many different jobs while going to school full time and one cannot simply go deluxe with school loans to pay off.)

I think what this person was trying to say is you are going to see more of the people that dont watch there young kids and let them run around at night making noise.
when my family and i were at POP in 05 we were at the pool and there were 2 couples with a few young kids that brought a radio to the pool and blasted heavy metal music and drank beer and played cards while there kids were in the pool jumping infront of guests and splashing other people and getting very sunburned. in the pool.

this wouldnt not make me go back there but we are staying at WL in Aug. and i dont think i will see this there.

You will find people with different degrees of backgrounds and personal values anywhere. Don't be surprised if "they" somehow show up at the WL!

the absolute worst thing about POP Century is the fact that it is 3500miles from where I live.

I wish it was tomorrow! It's June 10, 2006...a year from tomorrow! We're going right after her 2nd birthday. I'll just be happy to be under a year to go...then we can really start thinking about planning and starting to book.

In the mean time we're showing her lots of Disney videos, and she can already identify Mickey (as you can see by my sig.) Can't wait!!!

I haven't stayed at POP but I have stayed at the all stars and loved it!!!! I have 8 days until we will be at POP and I can't wait!!!!!!!

The value resorts I have found to be the best in the "World" because they are themed for kids of all ages, and because of the friendly people who stay there. I enjoy meeting other riff-raff as people say because politeness and being friendly is much more important to me than money. I have always believed in the fact that you should never judge a book by its cover.

I am a teacher and I know that the children I teach come from all walks of life....... and I will tell you the most enjoyable students have been the ones who aren't from the best homes, most times don't even have lunch money, and whose parents work fast food for a living. I think that personality is a quality that we should all look for in people.

So, next time you are at WDW and you see the group being loud at the pool, try saying "hi, where are you all from?" (that is, in a friendly way). I bet they just might be nice!!!!! It would be amazing to find a new friend!!!!!!!

Very well put Corinna! :flower:

Tag fairies can my next tag say...Hi my name is Myst and I am common riff-raff!?! :rotfl: Or how about...common riff-raff and proud of it! :teeth:

I haven't stayed at PoP yet but as you can see by my sig I will be and I am looking forward to it. I have stayed at ASMu 3 times though and have no complaints.

Myst

I tend to agree with you all. I think its nice to stay at a deluxe resort for bigger room and better pools but you still can have bad service and bad next door people.
When you can find a good deal and feel GREAT about it is really all that matters!
Example: We got a really good deal on package last year that included the Beach Club and we noticed on the 1st day that on the next doors balcony were left out a bunch of old drinks and food outside and it was still there two days later and really started to smell.
I called housekeeping and told them about it and they came up and cleaned it. I think that room was empty for those couple days because I can't image someone knowing that was there and not cleaned up and not asking housekeeping to come clean it up? Or maybe they were there and didn't care?
Anyway- You would think that by housekeeping cleaning the rooms everyday they would have noticed this but looks like who ever was cleaning that room was skipping the balcony cleaning. Pretty sad to pay that much money and things like that happen. But that smell was getting pretty bad! But of it didn't effect the trip by any means to us. Just wanted to point out that fact that just because you are in a better resort doesn't mean things can't happen there too. Because I would hope that most people want to come to WDW to spend time with there families!

Worst thing? Noise levels. We didn't sleep for 2 nights while there, and were glad to leave! And no, it doesn't happen at the finest hotels, we've stayed in many of them, though I'm glad others haven't had issues with it (though many have). The walls are very very thin and cheaply made, nothing like any hotel we've stayed in. Between the members of our party we've stayed in 8 disney resorts and never once heard a peep from another room.

Other than that, it's okay for $50 a night or so. We had a king room so it didn't feel as tight, though we wouldn't have lasted in a double room more than a couple of days tripping over each other. There seemed to be a lot of space between the buildings on the walkways so you're weren't tripping over people. Food court was packed and dirty most of the time but the food wasn't bad or outrageously expensive. Check in was a breeze. Parking was close (never rode the bus, we drive our own car). Very motel-like. I thought the interior decor to the rooms was very cute, though I don't care for the huge objects outside much - a bit over the top for me. Mousekeeping was good.

Glad we tried it, learned it wasn't for us, you might have a diff exp! =)

It is way too far from where I live :flower:

I split a stay last year between Pop and AKL. Noise level was equal. Buses were better at Pop. Food court better and fresher at Pop. AKL has Boma and Jink though....

The pool is fun and wet, but there is no zero entry- I missed that but knew it going in. I walked just as far to get to my room at AKL. Laundry area was better at POP for me (easier to get open washers).

The Pop has a lot of activity...

We loved the 50's section.

i cracked up at this thread, starting with the riff raff lines

We love the notion of a bargain too.

You have an interesting background nonetheless.

signed,

a mildly miffed apparent Riff raff (no degree) :umbrella:

Just so you know ... being a riff-raff doesn't depend on if you graduated from college, if you got good grades or how many certificates you have. It's an internal thing. You can be an MBA or PhD making big bucks for a major company and be riff-raff. You can be a high school drop out delivering pizzas and not be riff-raff. Or visa-versa.

mrFDNY and family loves pop than again were from brooklyn new york.maybe were used to riff raff, omg maybe we are the so called riff raff :confused3

What a jerk.

Now to answer the originally thread, Pop Century is a great resort. I have previoiusly stayed at CBR and POFQ (both moderates) and I liked Pop Century better. It is a great resort riff-raff and all.

Well I guess you can count me in on the Riff-faff gang or the....commoners, less-affluent types...were in the mist of planning our trip to the world this fall...and have picked POP as our place to call home durring our stay.

The way I see it...going to WDW and staying at a value resort is the way to go....after all how much time are you really going to spend in those "deluxe" rooms?

I also can't wait to tell the rest of our gang....that were official....Riff-raff less-affluent commoners now that were staying at the POP :cool1:

To Cool  Yep...Riff-faff les-affluent commoner and proud of it.

Well the only riff raff I can think of is the character in the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Of course that poster just said that to get a rise out of everyone.

Pop is fine. My kids liked it, I liked it. There is/was nothing wrong. We didn't get loud noises, etc. The 80's 90's section was very quiet. There were times when my kids were the only ones in the pool. (this was a summertime visit as well)

We've never stayed at POP. We always stay at the Grand Floridian. I can't imagine why anyone would think that those who stay at the POP are riff raff. My kids would LOVE to stay there but we don't want to do the two rooms yet since they are small and connecting rooms can't be guaranteed, and also DH and I have gotten spoiled with the monorail transportation especially since the kids are young.

That being said I would love to stay at every Disney resort just to check them all out. I think it is incredibly mean to call these people riff raff. Some just enjoy the theming of POP and others really do stay there for financial reasons. Does that make them riff raff - I hope we're not judging people by how much they can afford to spend on a resort.
