What is the weather like in early August?

In California? We want to go to DL amd DCA possibly Aug 4-11th.....Is it hot like Orlando FL or hot but not humid?

California weather at that time will be anywhere from 75-100, with an average of about 80.

I would not worry about it much, especially if you compare it to Florida.

The best day in August in Florida with the humidity is much worse than the worst day in California, which will be a dry heat.

As Calbay said, we have VERY low humidity in Southern California and August can be hot, but it's usually not unbearably so.
