What is the Waitlist for Add-ons that I keep hearing about?

We are interested in an add-on, with our first choice being VWL (we already own BCV, December use year). I keep hearing people referencing a "wait list" for an add-on. Is this through Disney? Could someone please explain to me how this works? Is it people waiting for contracts to become available after Disney exercises the ROFR?

If we wanted to do an add-on through Disney at a different home resort, would we have to get the same use year? I would prefer to get a March or April use year for our add-on, but would that mean we have to get two different contracts / membership numbers?

If you go on a "waitlist" through DVC for an add-on at a sold out resort(OKW,VWL,HH,etc). They will contact you when they get a extra pts(via ROFR) and you will pay the current selling price for those points.

You need to get the same use year if you are purchasing less than 150 points. Either way it is a seperate contract (because it has it's own closing and deed). It is only a seperate membership number is you purchase a different use year.

1. If DVC had VWL points for sale, could they give me the same use year (December) as I already have, or would it just strictly depend on the use year of the points they have available (is DVC flexible with this, depending on the situation of the person adding on?)

2. If I bought a resale at the same resort with the same use year, am I right to assume that it would still have to be a different membership number because it is a separate contract?

This is confusing - just trying to sort it all out!

Also - for those who have more than one membership, do you find this to be a problem? Should I hold out to try to get points with the same use year?

1. Depending on the size of your add-on. If it's under 150 points, you MUST have the same Use Year when purchasing via Disney. Therefore, if they didn't have any points available for your Use Year, then you would have to go on the waitlist until Disney bought back via their ROFR process some points for your Use Year.

2. Yes, each contract is a seperate 'membership'. But, MS keeps track of yours together when doing the reservations.

It is DVC's goal to add the contracts to the same membership and same # whether resale or not. If you buy a resale for the same use year, just make sure you let DVC know this and ask them to add it. I just did this by adding a 50 pt resale to my existing BWV contract (also bought resale).
