Will my 7 yo DS (who is not a strong swimmer) be able to go down the slide? At the YC/BC the slide has a strong current at the bottom and he cannot go on it.

Can I sit my 3 yo on my lap on the slide? (Can't do that at YC/BC on the big slide)

We will be there in a couple of weeks and I don't want to tell my kids they can go on it if they can't.

Thanks for the help!

Jill

We were there last summer and they would not let anyone go down together. The current at the bottom is not as strong as the BC but there is one. The slide is shorter so you don't pick up as much speed. Your 7 year old should be ok. My youngest was 7 last year and she did fine........We love the Polynesian it is our favorite resort so far but we haven't tried them all yet....

We were there in December and my 3,6 and 9 year olds were all fine. I left one of our cards at the marina (just around the "volcano" from the pool" ) and got a lifejacket for the 3 year old, then the 6 year old wanted one too although she doesn't need it. Having him in a life jacket made me feel a lot better, although DH let him just go down the slide and he caught him at the bottom. He's a real daredevil though and likes to go underwater, so the life jacket made sense. Get one for your 3 year old if you have any doubts. It's a really cool pool!

The Volcano slide is fast, and the water at the bottom is 3.5 feet. You should plan to be at the bottom for either a 3yo (even with flotation) or a 7yo who is not a strong swimmer. It would be reasonable to not allow a 3yo on it. A child who does not enjoy "thrill" rides probably won't enjoy this slide. Our 8yo who is in this category did not. Our 5 yo who usually likes thrills decided not to try it -- not sure why.

Aside from this it's a nice pool, and your 3yo will probably enjoy the "zero entry" area. You should also check out the "quiet pool" which is really just a short walk away (2 min), although it is everywhere too deep for a 3 yo.

I love the pool at the Polynesian. My oldest is 6 and she loves the slide, but this causes problems because my ds is only 3 and he is afraid to go down so he feels some what left out:( I'm hoping that he will learn how to swim this summer before our trip that way he might not feel so timid about going down the slide. I love the fact that it is a zero-entry pool. I can sit in the shallow end with my one yr old. She loves to sit and splash around. I can also watch my ds play in the sand when I sit in the shallow end:) They also have a play area that squirts water, my kids enjoy that too:smooth:
