What is the minimum age for the Family 5K run?

I do not think there is a minimum age as long as they are able to make 5k on their own....

Last year I had the same question and emailed runDisney about it. The response i got back indicated the child needed to be able complete the 5K under their own power (no carrying, piggy-backing or shoulder riding in other words). They certainly do not seem too strict on the pace requirements as it took us about 50 minutes to complete it with my then 6 year old daughter. My 9 year old could have done it faster but for the sake of having family pictures taken on the course I tried to keep the 4 of us together.

I'm planning on running it with DD, who is 7. (She'll have just turned 8 by then).

I don't think a 5k will be a big deal with her, as we regularly do 2.5 mile runs together in about 25 mins. I figure I've got a while to get her up in distance, if we even need that. She's so excited for the experience, although she'll be hating the fact that the start time is at 6:30 am!!!

Yes, my 8 (will be 9 next month) can do it. She is a diehard soccer player and has some good stamina (probably more than me, but that WILL change - I hope )

I am getting excited. So I am still doing some research, but I think that we are 94% sure we are going for it. I even contacted a friend of mine that lives in the LA area about the weather. I will probably put a deposit on a hotel soon.

Well apparently an 8-year-old finished the new york marathon in 1977 before the age limits (in 3 hours no less....he totally kicked me butt )...so I think as long as your kids are trained to handle the distance, I think they should be totally fine. I've never done any of the 5ks, but since there's no timing chip, I can't seem them being that strict at all on the limit limits

What a fun way to get the whole family involved....enjoy!

Just remember... it's the FAMILY Fun Run. Yes, I know Family Fun is a magazine but I have seen lots of younger folks coming back from the event PROUDLY wearing their medallion.

For the record, you really need to be on pace through mile1. Once inside the backstage area and then into the park you are not likely to be swept AS LONG AS you are making good progress. If you stop and take a nap on a bench...then all bets are off.

I'm pretty sure WDW allows strollers in the 5K (for an extra fee of course). I was hoping to do the event with my new granddaughter, but now they aren't arriving until Saturday, darn!

DD who is 8 ran the Royal Family 5K in Feb this year. She did awesome, we actually ran together and it was purely magical to run with her at Disney!
