what is the magic of a tiki bar?

We built a tiki bar in our yard a few years ago. Nothing fancy, its solid with a real tiki style roof, it seats 6 but also has standing room...has a small fridge and tv. Total probably 1000.00 investment. It is amazing how it has changed our lives...friends and neighbors over every weekend. Even though we all have very nice homes with airconditioning and big screen tvs inside, everyone wants to sit at the tiki with the heat and bugs and watch the 26 inch tv. I was just wondering what makes a little wooden structure so appealing and seemingly magical to people...is there some kind of psychology that anyone knows of regarding the appeal of a bar...even if its in a backyard?
BTW if anyone is interested, we got the instructions to build out tiki online from a guy who did one for extreme makeover, you can probably google that.

Maybe it gives the illusion of being somewhere else. I have a tiki bar in my backyard too, and it makes me feel like I am on vacation.

I think it is that vacation thing. Plus space. Very few people have room in their TV areas for more than a handful of people.

I have a few friends that have them. I think it's just a gathering spot.and you can bring your own drinks. We just call the cabanas.

Tiki bars are gaudy and so 1970s, and I LOVE them! I don't have one, but have been to a few parties that had them, and they seem to turn even the fuddiest of duddies into playful people!

More of a light party gathering, like a BBQ as opposed to being labeled Host or Guests.

It's something more than that, I think. Something about cheap, dried palm frond umbrellas and plastic lanterns get people in the mood to let loose.
