So much of this going on in the grocery store and I think we're a little blind to the fact that (relatively) inexpensive food items like your example have increased as much as 100% in price. It doesn't seem like a big deal for something like, say a can of Campbell's soup, to now cost $1.39 instead of the $0.99 it cost 18 months ago, but again, that's a 40% increase, and when so many things we put in the basket are this much more expensive, the sum total of food costs is out of control.
I had to buy a jar of miracle whip for a recipe I was making and was able to get just a teeny jar for around $5. The large jar was almost $12! But normally I just buy regular mayonnaise and that has gone up exponentially, as well, not to mention the jars have gotten smaller. I found Aldi’s still has mayonnaise at a reasonable price.
