What is the fastest way to renew expiring passports?

I just realized that both my 8 and 9 y/o's passports are expiring in 2 weeks and we hope to travel at the end of January. We live just outside of Wash. DC and so could get into the District if this would help. I have no idea where the birth certificates are after our many moves so I really need to rely on the passport renewals. We do not care about the cost, just that it's done as quickly as possible. Thanks so much. Threehearts

A couple of options...

Get your photos and head to the post office first thing Monday. Pay the fees for expideted serivce. I think that's a two week turnaround.

Go to the Dept of State website. http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html
It tells you how to schedule an appt. in DC for a renewal.

Pay one of the serivces (do a websearch) THey "block" appts and for a fee will expedite yours.
