What is the earliest flight out of Hobby would you suggest?

We are looking at flying out of Hobby at around 11:00am. Is that too early or should we look for something later? I have never been to Galveston, so I have no idea.

Since DCL is recommending flights no earlier than 1:00 out of George Bush, I'd start there. But, it's closer than George Bush.

How are you getting from the port to airport? Are you going to need to turn in a rental car? Take a shuttle? That makes a difference.

Thank you! We will probably take a shuttle or car service. Okay, so we will shoot for around 1:00. Do you have any idea as to how much time it takes to get from the terminal to the airport?

Nothing definite. It's about 50 miles between the two. But the traffic/time of day/day of week can vary the amount of time necessary to travel it.

11 might a bit close. I would say if you have a car service and do Express Walk Off you should be fine. The only caveat is that, depending on when you are going, Galveston is sometimes besieged by fog. I've cruised out of Galveston three times, and other family has cruised out of Galveston 8 times, and out of those 11 times, only twice has the ship (not all Disney) actually arrived back to Galveston on time. Anecdotally, I think January and February are the worst for fog.

I know. If I every cruise out of Galveston, I plan on allowing a couple of days at the end of my cruise before flying back home.

If the ship arrives on time, you should be able to make a 11 am flight from Hobby.

With no traffic you can be at Hobby in 45-50 minutes. I fly frequently out of Hobby and some days its a ghost town and other a madhouse, it is never predictable by day of the week. I am TSA Pre and half the time that line is longer than the other security line. I would probably do the 1pm to be safe. At least Hobby is a decent airport now with plenty of food and drink options! (They have a chick fil a now so as long as you aren't flying on a Sunday you are in good shape)

We are on the NYE Wonder cruise out of Galveston and I am being super cautious about fog delaying our arrival and am booking a 5pm/6pm flight home.

Better safe than sorry, I've heard too many horror stories on here regarding missed flights :(

Remember that FOG can be a problem for ships entering and leaving the port. In January this year, the Wonder didn't make it into port until after 2pm. When she returned she was delayed getting into port, but I think that she was docked by 9am. And with that you've missed your flight ...

Another big factor what day do you get into Galveston. If you are trying to get from port to either airport for an early flight on a work day there will be traffic and Houston traffic can be an absolute standstill nightmare. I grew up and learned to drive in that traffic haha. I'd say 1pm is pretty safe baring any super thick fog but if fog pushes arrival at least traffic shouldn't be in the cards at that point.

Are certain times of year more susceptible to fog than others? We are looking at the EB Panama Canal cruise next year arriving at Galveston in November.
