What is the DUMBEST / WORST HOA rule you have ever heard of?

Are the streets privately owned? If not, I don't see how they can stop the ice cream guy. C'mon, who doesn't love the ice cream guy? Buncha scrooges.

I don't much care for them. I think it is creepy... kind of like clowns...

We have two houses, one we rent out and the other we live in, and both have HOAs. The rental house is in the HOA with the nosey neighbours.

One woman proposed a new covenant: she wanted rules governing how you could decorate INSIDE your house! She said that most of the neighbours were lousy at interior decorating and needed to be told what they could and couldn't do! She was the only one to vote for her proposed covenant!

A homeowner's association in a golfing community near us had speed limits that were enforced by th HOA--the developer was also head of the HOA and would pull people over and give them tickets all the time for going over 15 MPH. It was perfectly legal because it was in their covenants. I only know about it because the developer kept getting in the newspaper for this kind of stuff.

My friend's M-I-L had a neighbor who really did go around measuring the heght of grass in people's yards with a ruler and would complain to the HOA if the grass didn't EXACTLY meet the covenant rules.

I live in a funky older neighborhood near the University with no HOA, and I love it. Anybody could easily paint their house purple with lime trim, and nobody could do a thing about it. I can't stand neighborhoods where the houses all look alike--that makes me hyperventilate, want to buy a mini-van, and pop out 2.3 kids! (Oh wait a sec, I already have a minvan... ).
