This is our first trip and we are going in January. We are staying at an All Star resort on Walt Disney, but my kids are huge Harry Potter fans. I've looked at MEARS, cabs, and renting a car as we are . Renting a car is the cheapest until I talked to someone that traveled in May. She says there is a free bus service between the WDW and Universal. What is the transportation company so I can research routes/times/etc?

There is no such thing. You can get a taxi from mears or other cab company but that's about it.

I think that Dreams Unlimited was running a special where they provided free transportation if you bought your universal tickets through them. I don't know if they're still doing it, though.

The bus service is Lynx. But they do not have direct bus to Universal and you would be better off taking a cab,,

Below is the bus info.

FROM DOWNTOWN DISNEY to:
Other Attractions
Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure - bus 50 to its first stop on Sea Harbor Drive. Transfer there to bus 8. You can then either get off at Universal Boulevard and walk the rest of the way (about 15 minutes walk) or get off at Grand National Drive, cross over International Drive to the stop opposite, and take a 37 right into Universal.
Sea World/Aquatica/Discovery Cove - bus 50 direct. Trip time about 20 minutes. For Discovery Cove, go to Sea World and then use their free shuttle service.
Busch Gardens - this is way outside the area covered by LYNX buses. To get here, you'll need the Busch Gardens shuttle express which picks up at several places in the area. The easiest pick up location to get to from Disney is at Sea World (see above). This is a once-per-day scheduled service, but you need to book in advance by phone or online to be sure of getting a seat. The price is very low and it's free for holders of certain multi-park admission tickets (e.g. the type of Orlando FlexTicket which includes Busch). This service is not part of LYNX, but you can, of course, use LYNX to get to the pickup point if necessary. More details and online bookings here https://secure.mearstransportation.co...

We are seeing quite a few inquiries about some free shuttle between WDW resorts and US/IoA. Please...they do not exist. Why anyone would think that Disney would provide free transportation to a direct competitor is beyond me.
These are your options...
1. a cab
2. a car service
3. Dreams Unlimited pkg...park pass and transportation
4. lynx bus..Orlando's public transit, and not the most efficient way to get there.
5. rental car

There are no 'free' options. Well, not unless you hitch a ride with someone else.:rotfl2:

Yep, I bet that's what they are referring to. When you buy a ticket and transfer through DU on Mears the ride is basically free.

I think if you price out tickets and the Mears shuttle separately, it can come out cheaper than the DU bundle. Not that there's anything wrong with buying a bundle; it's just not "free."

I have done that..twice. The DU offer (similar to other offers as well) worked out best for me. You would have to get the US/IoA passes at $20 off in order to make it cheaper. I haven't seen that type offer. But, that's just what I've found, others may have found something cheaper.

Everyone should always do their homework and figure out what makes the most sense for their party.

FWIW, ANY travel agent can book you UO tickets that include transfers, not just DU.

I do believe that's pretty much what I said...'similar to other offers'. But, most people here aren't using a TA, hence their question on this board. If they were using a TA, that TA would be able to give them the same info.
