What is the big deal about dinner at 'Ohana?

LOVE 'Ohana. Why not give it a try for yourself? I couldn't get a dinner reservation there for this trip so we are trying out breakfast for the first time. The bread is delicious. We had them bring out 3 loaves!! Great potstickers. I loved the wings. The best part of the meal is dessert. Soooo yummy!!! I say you should go and give it a try for yourself!

As far as the speed of the service, some people say it's to fast and some say too slow. I think it depends on what kind of service you like to have. I like to have the different parts of the meal brought out quickly. I hate sitting and waiting around for the next thing. Our server was great and brough us everything we needed quickly. Someone else having the same service might have thought they were being rushed. On the other hand, some like leisurely meals with slow service, which drives me nuts. So, I think it's all a matter of opinion here. I enjoyed the service very much. :)

I love, love, love Ohana! Dinner is amazing food and so much of it! Breakfast is not my favorite, but the character interaction can't be beat. Ohana is a must do for both breakfast and dinner in my opinion!

We enjoy Ohana! The food and the entertainment! :)

We are going back in Feb.. couldnt get reservations for later this month.

We loved 'Ohana the first time we went to it. Finally made it back again this year ... and enjoyed it even more! All the food was good ... but wow it is alot of food. Service is a little spotty but we always got drinks, etc ... If you are looking for a great deal of waiter interaction, it doesn't happen. Yet, I would go again in a heartbeat! I think you have to try a restaurant and make up your own mind. Have fun! :thumbsup2

So glad to hear all the positive remarks. we are trying ohana for dinner for the 1st time this trip. was always worried about the picky eaters in my group but then found out they could have chicken nuggets and fries.

wdwpirate - thanks for those amazing pics. can't wait until oct!

OK! I am a believer...keeping the ADR and looking forward to it! Thanks for all of the tips and the great pictures too. Enjoy your trips and meals at 'Ohana!!

NOTHING!

We went there last trip and thought it was so overrated. It was OK. I felt rushed for sure. It good have been just the night or just the server so i'm definitely willing to give it another try.

I loved the the wings, loved the potstickers, loved the salad, loved the noodles, loved the bread pudding. The meat was awful....bland and tough. The brocoli was barely cooked.

I'm going to try Ohana breakfast this upcomming trip.

we're ohana lovers too! can't wait for our ressie in december! hands down, favorite meal of the trip last time.

Has my vote too! DH, DD, & DS love it too. Only thing I don't like is you have to ask for the salt, it's not on the table.

...hear sooo many mixed reviews about 'Ohana! Some people LOVE it and others (like my sister) say she felt like they throw food at you, it is not so good, and it is just not worth the time...
Most restuarants have mixed reviews. Breakfast is far superior in terms of food quality, service and we have never experience server helpers throwing or drop and running away at Breakfast...dinner is totally a different story.

...Why is it so hard to get an ADR? I got one but, barely and now I think I should cancel it....Who out there loves it and who hates it???
Most likely a combination of things...Its in the heart of Disney magic with a great view of Seven Seas and the castle/wishes. Lots of people love the theme of the restuarant and resort. Its a way for those who do not stay at PR to experience a taste of the resort. Disney dining plans have created higher demands for restaurants that are 1 ticket, offering all you care to eat formats with a meat themed meal. Its lost a little of the polynesian feel, service and offerings that you could find a decade ago. If quanity is more than quality or you love the theme or want to try the experience... its a place to dine. Personally, we would recommend breakfast, but no longer recommend dinner. There are better places to dine for dinner, but by all means give it a try, but its not worth it to stress out in trying to get a dinner ADR.

I found it hard to get a reservation which made me curious.

It was THE BEST TASTING MEAL of the whole vaction.
The chicken tasted so so so good. Much better than expected.
The noodles were sooo yummy. I also had the salad and yummy bread. I am a picky eater- not fancy eater- I like noodles, salads, chicken- I was worried my husband wouldnt eat anything - he loved it too.

The restaurant was nice, great atmosphere, liked my lei, fast service.

But it was the taste of the chicken!!!! It would be the one restaurant I would of paid out of pocket for- that and maybe Chrystal Palace- but that would be based on atmosphere only.

(I also went to Chef Mickey, Park Fare, Biegarten, Garden Grill)
Ohana was just so tasty!

I want to thank you for typing the correct name of the restaurant. Just a little pet peeve of mine to see it called O'hana's, O'hana, O'hanas, etc., as if it is your local Irish pub.

We go because we like the food and the atmosphere, and we love Lilo & Stitch at breakfast. I can't afford to stay at the Polynesian but at least I can hang out at their fun South Seas-themed restaurants. We always do Kona Cafe as our first-night's dinner and 'Ohana as our last day's breakfast. The breakfast juice is to die for. (But skip the horrid bacon.)

I :lovestruc Ohana. I do find the meat a little dry, but I just skip the pork, turkey and ask for some mid-rare steak. We be there in less than 3weeks and can't wait to try the chicken, read many good reviews of it.

I think part of the issue is:

Some people have a sentimental attachment to the place. They came here as kids with their parents and that skews their opinion of the place.

Some people are just happy to be in Disney and are happy with whatever is served to them.

Some people never ate here when it was good so thay are not aware it has changed.

Personally I do not like it anymore.

We went to the breakfast a couple of years back and it was obviously powdered eggs, I won't be back to see if they have addressed this.

We went to the dinner many years ago for my parents 25th anniversary and it was great.
We went again a few years ago and it was awful.
Peel and eat shrimp, really is this golden coral?

I won't be back so I guess this open up an ADR for someone else.

I have been to Ohana 3 times, after the last visit in May I will not be back. The service was awful, the food was cold and the steak was like leather. I don't know if it was an off night, but I was so digusted. I hope you have a better time there than we did.

We have experienced the opposite of 'Ohana breakfast the 2x we have dined there. We think it's the worst buffet on property: subpar food, bad service, horribly long waits, way too long for characters to come around (2 hours and 10 mins last year) and very disorganized. Our kids have requested not to go back, it was that bad. How about bringing more syrup for our waffles, as we are leaving? Ummm...the syrup was requested over 2 hours ago. How about dirty utensils, how about disappearing server, how about disgusting food and a scene of chaos in order to check in, that resembles a crowded airport terminal on Christmas Eve.

We have eaten almost everywhere on property (including many Signatures), and have eaten at all character meals a multitude of times, so lots to compare, and we think it's just bad all around!

We won't eat there again. Kona is much better! Tiger

It's horrible, stay away, especially during Wishes, the first week in March 2011. In the interest of good reporting, I'll be making my ADRs tomorrow, I'll include Ohana twice from 3/3 - 3/10 just to let everyone here know how bad it is, so don't even try to book a table during this time frame.

I absolutely LOVE Ohana. Having said that, I have always said it is hit or miss with the service. I either have a wonderful meal or a dreadful one. I never know what I am going to get and I keep going back because IT IS a sentimental favorite. But on the nights it is bad... it is awful.

I have had the worst service ever here then any other place at Disney and that is stretched out over several years and trips.

It is usually 50/50 for your chances, and for me, with the price and popularity for the place, I think your odds should be better than that to NOT have a horrible meal.
