What is the best wedding gift you have ever recieved (or have given)?

Wow, these are all really great ideas! I will absolutely give them cash, as that seems to be the most common. Christmas ornaments are a good idea too, I will look for some really nice ones while in Europe. If I can't find any, does anyone have a good website to look for them off-season? The gas grill and sporting good gift card are good ideas too. :thumbsup2
Anyone else have other ideas?

the best Christmas store I have ever visited.

Have their wedding invitation framed and matted- if you have an engagement photo of them, do them together.

Best gift given: Cruise for the honeymoon.

I second this idea. My maid of honor did this for my husband and I. She framed our wedding invitation, the background was the sheet music from the song sung at our wedding and she included some of the ribbons that were on our cake as well. Almost 16 years later and it is still hanging in our home. I love it because it is basically our wedding all in one place.

The best gift I think we have ever "given" was to DH's cousin.

They took dancing lesssons for their "first dance", and generally made a big deal about it, so we took two nice pictures of them dancing, and the lyrics to the song, and framed them in a three-picture frame.

We did the same thing with their vows and two nice shots of them.

They turned out GORGEOUS.

Unfortunately, I don't think they appreciated them at all. All we got was a Facebook message "thank you". I doubt they even have them hanging in their house.

I wish I would have taken the time and effort to make them for US instead. :sad2:

I've been married more than 15 years and the gift I've used the most is a big Coleman cooler. It goes with us on every long car trip and I use it in the back of the van around town when I'm making multiple stops grocery shopping. It may be getting little old but it works great and is the most useful thing we were given. You could combine a cooler with grill tools and some of the other camping type things mentioned.

2. A mini gas grill, with grill tools. Not something I use everyday, but great to have when I need it. It's about the size of a hibachi. Might be a good idea for your campers! Maybe get them some other "camping eating" utensils too.

Oooh, oooh! To expand on this idea, look into Weber Q gas grills. They have portable models (for camping) that can be used with an optional folding cart at home. DH has gone through many standard gas grills in his 56 years and tonight said "I just love that grill!" about the Weber Q300 I bought for him a few years back. (Trust me, there are very few things he "just loves", so you can take that to the bank. ;) )

I just pulled out my favorite wedding gift on Valentine's day.

It was a Waterford Crystal vase that my Mom bought us in Ireland.

My Dh even commented that 15 years later it is still gorgeous and it is the only thing he remembers lol. Prob because I got so excited and cried when i opened it.

Two of my favorite things that we were given for our wedding, that I still have and use are: a really nice big handmade, warm quilt for our bed (not a throw). The other is a hand-thrown pottery casserole dish.

If they enjoy outdoor cooking and camping trips, you could look at a Camp Chef camping stove. We use ours all the time, both camping and at home. It has two good quality gas burners and can connect to a standard propone tank. There are grill plate/griddle inserts too. DH uses it with our wok at home to make fried rice and stir fry, we do breakfast meat outside so the house doesn't smell all day, and it has a nice case that it packs up into. It is also very sturdy, more than the Coleman we borrowed from his parents before we got this one.

I'd also recommend a set of "travel" knives for the campers. It wasn't a wedding gift, but a friend of ours gave us a set of knives in a hard case...there are 8 steak knives, a chef knife, a bread knife, a paring knife. They would be great to take along on a camping trip...come in their own hard case, so you don't have to worry about wrapping them so people don't get cut and so forth.

How about a gift basket of things meaningful to them??? When my DB & DSisIL got married, they weren't having a big wedding (2nd marriage for both), didn't want people to go to a lot of expense and trouble. I made them a gift basket that had toasting glasses, a couple of special Christmas ornaments (they are both big into Christmas), a couple of cat-related things (they love cats and have had several throught he years), a couple of gift cards to their favorite neighborhood resaurant...just stuff that I knew they'd enjoy. Put some of that grassy stuff in a nice basket, arranged all the items, wrapped it in cellophane with a big bow...looked nice and they liked it because it was a fun gift that took into consideration their life and what they liked and it wasn't hard to do.

So think of what your bride and groom like in addition to camping and maybe go from there...coffee (get some gourmet coffee and His and Hers or Bride and Groom mugs), travel (maybe a gas card or a hotel gift card), theater (movie theater gift card and some microwave popcorn or DVDs and some popcorn for moves at home), favorite restaurant GC, do they like pets....throw something pet-related in, a couple of the nice ornaments you are going to buy...think about them, what you know they like and go from there.

What about a gift basket of 'memberships'? You could get them an annual state park pass, an annual county park pass (if they live in a county that needs one), and annual pass to the science museum (we have the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit right now), an annual pass to the Minnesota Zoo.
