What is the best way to make room requests?

Hello everyone,

I booked a standard view studio at Boardwalk villas by renting DVC points. The seller said to contact him if I have any issues or requests.

I understand that to make room requests when you rent DVC points you need the owner to contact the resort directly for you, correct?

I want to stay in a dedicated studio. According to the map, there are not many dedicated standard view studios. I found a few that would fit the bill (I looked at the touring plans map and few maps here for reference).

Touring plans recommend making requests like this

"Bldg Disney's BoardWalk Villas South Building,Flr 4,NE-facing room.Exmple:4097"

What we want is :
- dedicated studio
- highest floor available (based on the standard view that would be 3rd or 4th floor).

How should I proceed? I don't want to bother the dvc owner with multiple requests, so what is the best way to phrase it to increase my chances of getting what I want?
I heard specifically requesting a room number is not good.

Thank you

Have the owner request "dedicated studio, upper floor". Don't bother with the touring plans description.

so no need to add "examples" of room request? like " e.g. room 4089, 4988, etc..)
No. The room assigner knows which studios are dedicated studios and which are part of a lockoff. There are only 15 dedicated standard view studios.

perfect.

last question: we are still 10 months out. when is the best time to ask the DVC owner to make that request? does she need to call them, or just email them?

There is no perfect time to make your request but don't wait until you're only a few weeks away from your arrival. The member can make their request via phone call, chat or email.

I'd let the owner know as soon as you're certain what your request is. That gives her plenty of time to chat, email or call as her schedule permits.

If you have a TP subscription, they'll send a room request for you. Obviously they can't control whether the request is met or not and there's zero guarantee, but I had really good luck with this pre-pandemic. We had 3 separate families traveling together and I requested to be on a higher floor and near one another. They met both requests, even getting us right next door. Same trip (split stay) we requested a high floor at Copper Creek and a lake view if possible. Again, they got us both. I wrote up requests that were very friendly and explained our needs in a way that didn't sound demanding. I don't know if that helped or not but I always think it gets you further to be nice than it is to come off as bossy or entitled.

I heard about TP before, but I rented DVC points, and apparently only the owner can make requests (which was already done). Thank you!

I'm not sure this is actually true (or maybe it's true now but wasn't before?). The trip I'm describing was on rented DVC points. It's possible we just got super lucky and got everything we wanted, but our requests were fairly specific to have it just be luck. We did not make any requests through the owner - we used TP only for the room request. Also, TP allows you to choose DVC rooms within a request - I just submitted requests for my split stay on rented DVC points and can confirm those rooms are an option.
