What is the best way to get from Sanford to Disney?

We usually travel to MCO, but we are thinking of trying another airport that is much closer to our home but only flies to Sanford. Would we have to rent a car or is there any type of shuttle/bus service?

Renting a car is going to be the easiest and perhaps least expensive. We travel a few times Sanford. Last Fall we used MCO and the security, distance to gates and stress factor was too much. We really do not use ME unless the guys pick up a car and everyone else rides.

Watch rates. We had a minivan from Alamo for 8 days for $303.00.

Is it Allegiant? The flights are fast, never had delays, pack a snack and buy a water to take on board, they charge for everything. A back pack is free and prepay your checked bag. Overhead bin is a fee.

Rent a car. Book early. If a better deal comes along later, you can always drop the old one and book a new one.

Do you mean a better deal for the car or the air? We are going in March by SW and the price did drop and I changed for the lower fair only to find out that the credit will expire before we plan to fly again in December. At any rate, my DH would like to try our local airport with allegiant. What is there policy should prices drop?

He meant to rent the car now, not a drop in airfare. Allegiant isn't likely to do anything for a drop. Then watch the rental car rates. But do not prepay, get one that allows. Cancellation if you locate a less expensive rate. About two weeks and a day out I got one for a lot less cost.

Thanks, I will look into it. Yes,it is Allegiant. So, any car rental you recommend? We are planning December 13-20.

Wow, that's a high rental cost time during the holidays. I used Alamo. You may be doing some watching and changing of reservations as you watch the dates. Keep checking back with them and watch for December 2014 car rental code thread to pop up.

I haven't even looked into it yet. But I already have my DVC reservation made and those are the dates I want. If I had to change I could make it one day later but really don't want to get any closer to Christmas than it already is. And we can't go earlier ( college kids )

read this thread 3 days ago about the shuttle Horizon.

don't know if it will be economical for you if all 5 in your siggie are going.

Yes, all five of us are going. Thanks for the link to the thread. I am going to do some research. If it is too much or too complicated we can still book with SW or JetBlue at the airports farther from home as we have done in the past. It was DH idea to try the one closer to home to make it easier. But to me,it seems more complicated!

What about FL tours? I just looked through their link on this page and it said $144 round trip for 5 people in a van. That sounds reasonable to me. We wouldn't have the hassle of renting a car or driving ourselves.

I think that $144 is for MCO, not Sanford! I didn't think that FL Tours went to Sanford. I have used a car service there and back..runs about $200, plus tip. With the time of year that you're going, you may find this to be cheaper than a rental car. They will also do a 30 min grocery stop for you, so you can get food and such..especially nice when you're staying DVC!
The drive is an easy one...takes about an hour. But, it may just be easier to get a towncar service! Then, sit back and let them take care of the driving! I used Tiffany Towncar with good results. But that was awhile ago.

Rent a car. Very easy drive down 417 to Disney, just be sure to have toll quarters for you ride.

Costco's website usually has good car rental deals, and they don't require upfront payment. Better deals might come along as you get closer to your arrival date, so you can always cancel your original reservation. The last two times we flew Allegiant into Sanford, we got good deals with Alamo...once thru Costco and once from Allegiant when we booked the flight. We're actually flying into St. Pete with Allegiant next week, and so far, I'm still holding a reservation with Alamo from Costco. We're renting a 15-passenger van, so I'm not expecting better deals. But anyhow...the drive is easy, and the ability to sneak offsite to a grocery store, pharmacy, or Walmart is always nice.

Thanks, I really don't know. I will check into it more. I emailed a friend who has done this every year. He said that they use Happy Limo and were very happy with their service.

Allegiant does now offer a shuttle from Sanford to WDW - the option comes up when purchasing tickets online. Its not cheap though, I think $50-$60 per person. With 5 ppl that isn't' going to be cost effective for you.

We use Sanford a lot & use Tiffany Town Car service. Not the cheapest option but we do not want to rent a car & drive, it's vacation! We pay $125 one way or about $225 RT from Sanford to WDW.
