What is the best way to check a booster seat for a flight?

It will not be used during the flight (since boosters are not approved), but I will need it when we get there. Should I just gate check it?

Also, anyone know what the age cutoff is for Florida for a child riding without a booster? I'm bringing one for my 6 yo (who is very small) but I was hoping I could leave the one for the 7 yo at home (who is very big for her age).

I don't know about the age limit (or more specificaly the weight/height limit) for booster seats in Florida, but we just got back last week, and we checked ours with the regular luggage when we picked up the boarding passes. We flew Song (awful, but that's another story) and brought some tape to keep all the parts attached, then they put the seats into a clear plastic bag they keep a supply of at the counter. Then they slap the sticker/tag on it, and off it goes. We put luggage tags onto them with the tape alaso, in case the claim tag came off. We do it this way every time, and have never had a problem. It's just easier than carrying them throught the airport, getting through security, and hoping it makes it onto the plane at the gate.

If you gate check it you then need to carry it through the airport, MCO is a BIG airport. Check it as luggage and save yourself some lugging. :)

If you go to the net and do a search for seatbelt laws for FL you should find the info you need for child restraints. If memory serves a booster is not necessary for a 6 or 7 year old, by law.
They physical makeup of the child is a different story.

A booster is required in FL for all chldren 5 and under, that's it. What I do is I bought a car seat bag at Babies R Us. The bag is HUGE, and it hold a lot more than our booster seat. What we usually do, is either fill it with a few tihngs before we leave home, and then stick the seat in as well, or if we're traveling during a cold time, we'll take off our coats, stuff them in and off we go. No carrying heavy jackets through the airport!!! It works out great!!
