We will be visiting at the end of July, and have never seen Galaxy's Edge before. What is the best time of day to visit, in terms of crowds? Is it best to go right at rope drop, or do things tend to calm down a bit later in the day...? Thanks!

it will be busy most of the day.

If you are able, going there during the fireworks is nice, since you can still see the fireworks (but no music), and it will likely be less crowded. Plus you see everything at night, which is also nice.

I was in the parks 2 weeks ago, and it seemed slightly less busy in the later afternoon.

Note that I had no issues shopping, or checking the locations/buildings at any point, or eating, the only things that really get bogged down are the two attractions. I.e. the land didn't seem any busier than the rest of the park, except for the attractions (and mainly ROTR)

Since you are going during a typically hot month, I personally would spend the majority of my time late/afternoon evening in that area. It's very exposed out in GE with little shade, although there are some hidden areas shady areas, but for the most part it's pretty bright out there. It's also very different at night, because of all of the intergalactic lighting. And, as Steven G pointed out...the fireworks!

Whatever time you choose, it will be fun. I've been out there on a scorching hot day and jumped around to all of the attractions and had a blast. It feels very realistic to emerge from Oga's after cocktails in the dark, to the bright hot sun. LOL

If you want to go into Oga's Cantina and don't have a reservation, go in the morning for that. Watch the app for 60 minutes or less on Rise and hit it then. We've had luck various times during the day, except right after 1:00 when people hop. At night the land is gorgeous all lit up. And if you have a lightsaber, night is must in front of the Falcon.
