What is the best (safest,cheapest) way to rent a villa?

If I want to rent a good villa for a week in Jan. but would like to do it cheaper than going through Marriott for example to get into Horizons, is there a website to go to? Is it skyauction I want to go to or where should I check. I want it to be a legitimate way to get into it yet am hoping to save a little money so it will make my decision to stay off disney property a no-brainer! Any ideas?

Check www.hotelkingdom.com they have some villa that you can rent.

You may want to consider renting directly from an owner but if you are worried about renting from someone you don't know there will be plenty of recommendations on the DIS boards. There are also plenty of owners on here too

There are loads of websites where you can rent from owners try www.vrbo.com www.homeaway.com or www.ownersdirect.co.uk Check out some of these to see what area you would like and then put a post for some recommendations

You could check tug in the classifieds section, and eBay may be ok as long as you do your homework. I suspect 90% of eBay rentals are exchanges being sold against the exchange company rules. You can also try Redweek.com, but again, do your homework and make sure they are owners whether it be at Hilton, Marriott, DVC, etc. You can also try craigslist.com.

Agree with CoralCay. They along with other owners have condos, townhouses or pool homes to rent out. There's also many others on the other sites. We like Windsor Hills because it's close but there's lots of other communities. Here's a couple of maps to show where the subdivisions are if you want to go that route.

But one thing to remember is that you will need a car to get around. Some of the resorts have shuttles but I wouldn't depend on them to get where I want to go.
