apparently some disney bug is going around?
We arrive on Saturday. What precautions should we take

While I don't know of a specific "bug", there are several precautions to take:
  • Wash your hands often.
  • Use hand sanitizer or sanitizing hand wipes when visiting public places.
  • Avoid touching your face, especially the nose, mouth, and eye areas, if you are around someone with a cold or have been touching surfaces in a public area.
  • Don't smoke. Cigarette smoke can irritate the airways and increase susceptibility to colds and other infections. Even exposure to passive smoke can make you (or your children) more vulnerable to colds.
  • Throw tissues away after use. Used tissues are sources of virus that can contaminate any surface where they are left.
  • Wipe Down Germy Areas - some people will wipe down areas (TV Remotes, telephones, door handles, etc.) with Clorox wipes after they check into their room.
  • Drink Plenty of Fluids - Especially ones without caffeine. Staying hydrated helps your immune system.

Some people think there's a "bug" that goes around WDW, like a stomach bug. IMO, there's no such thing as a "Disney bug". It's the same concept when you go to a concert, sit in an airplane, or go anywhere in public with lots of people. Standard precautions apply. We've made many, many trips to WDW and never had anyone get sick with a bug while here...ear infections yes...stomach, no.

There are always lots of germs to share at a place like WDW. I believe the main bug that people have been discussing is gastrointestinal. DH had to make some pretty desperate sprints to find a bathroom while we were there. Most folks seem to be recovering in a day or so. I caught only a mild cold.

With any of these things, washing hands well and frequently with regular soap and water is your best precaution.

There is something going around.....not just a Disney. It is that time of year.

All of my family got hit last week at home. 3 different households. Stomach bug for all, but DDIL got the flu and strep.

This last trip I brought hand wipes to clean airplane tray, seat belt, my hands after using toilet, in room phone, remote, counter tops, door knobs inside and outside room.

Don't believe in any bug. Closing on 200 visits and never got sick.

I think folks are going at a different pace than they normally do, eating way different than they usually do, more junk food and sweets, more excitement, more swimming in pools for some, sleep patterns off .... just lots of different changes ....

And I do think some germs come with them and just manifest while there.

Washing hands and using sanitizer helps ... and we avoid all railings wherever we can.

DD working there right now for DCP has some kind of virus going on, sore throat, cough, congestion, headache. Personally, I chalk that up to fatigue from her putting so many hours in during the holiday season. Plus with all the thousands of people CM's are in close proximity with, it's easy to pick up an air-borne illness along the way.

We always bring activated charcoal with us just in case of a tummy bug. I think we had a slight one this last trip but thankfully it was short and wasn't a big deal.

A GI virus that takes about 24 hours to feel human sounds like noro to me.

If you get something like. Too, you want it out. Don’t take things to stop the process. Stay in the room and be miserable for 24 hours.

People run themselves down at Disney.

So true.

Meh I h is exactly what I just got over, out in Washington state. :)

‘tis the season for colds, both mild and slam-ya-down types.

For noro type virus prwvention, it doesn’t matter what you touch as long as you don’t touch hands to your face. They get in by way of those mucous membranes is nose and mouth. So don’t let that happen. And that means NO finger foods unless you literally wash your hands thoroughly, touch nothing, and have a clean robot hand you a cookie or something. :) don’t let your hands that have touched anything touch your mouth or anything that will go into your mouth. Utensils are your friends.

Purell and similar don’t take care of noro.

Activated charcoal? For poisonings? It usually causes vomiting, absorbs potential drug overdoses - they gave to one of our dogs when she ripped into bottle of motrin.

What other uses does it have? I only know it from my dog.
