The pictures I've seen of the rooms at POR (AB section) look...well, ugly. It just looks way too rustic and worn.....could it be the pictures????
The buildings also look kind of plain....

anyway, we plan on staying in SEPT and I was going to request a manison room, but everyone seems to love AB.

One of my best friends raves about it-and she and her DH can afford to stay GF if they wanted, but no....it's got to be POR in an AB room .

If I decide to go this route, what building in AB is not too far our, but not right on top of everything?

:confused3

I've stayed in both sections of POR before and I personally did not like AB at all. My sister and her family disliked it much much more(being very kind here in my description of their opinion). I would recommend if you're staying at POR to request the Mansion section. Good luck!

You can request the Mansion section, but that doesn't mean you'll get it! We went to POR determined to stay in the Mansions and avoid AB at all costs. We got AB anyway. They said they could move us in a couple of days. By then, we were settled in so we just stayed. We ended up enjoying it. It's true, the furniture is very rustic. But, the landscaping is very lush and beautiful, not manicured as it is over by the mansions. The rustic furnishings, the exotic landscaping, the quiet pathways and foot bridges created (at least for us) a very secluded, peaceful and, believe it or not, romantic ambience.

Friends of ours stayed in AB and we visited them-we thought it was ugly too. Just didnt suit our tastes for a "vacation resort". We added the ugly factor to our list of reasons not to stay there. By the way, our friends did move mid week to the Mansion section and said it was much nicer.

This past trip we requested the Mansions and stayed there. It really was beautiful. I had every intention of walking over to the AB section to check it out, but I never made it. Even still, I think we would go with the Mansions again next time. :flower:

I have never stayed in the Mansion section because I always end up requesting a building near the main building and bus stop. The closest are in AB.

I kinda agree about this!! That is why I upgraded to CR, even though it is funky and outdated I thought it looked more "fun" for kids and families...I don't care much for the country theme!! I'd prefer a beach theme or even the value theme looks "fun" compared to POR...I guess it is all in the eyes of the beholder. I have heard really great reviews on POR AB...good luck ::MinnieMo

We stayed at AB in March and loved it. My DW had wanted the mansions, but the kids and I overruled her and went with AB. Rustic, yes, but when you're from a "little" farther north it was really great. It had a warm and welcoming feel to it. Yes, the landscaping was lush and green and the room was perfect for us.

Everybody's tast is different. If you don't think you'll like it... don't do it. Why take the chance on spoiling your modd for the whole trip. The mansions looked beautiful too.... but I wanted to think about that would be best for the kids. Make sure you very nicely request what you want, and the odds are good you will get it.

I agree that the rustic is not very attractive. My nephews chose the mansions;they did not like AB.

Will we be able to select another moderate, if the mansions are not available?

I'm from Tennessee, and my BF and I love it, for the simple fact it looks like our cabin up in the mountains. Honestly being from an area that has the actual "rustic" look, it isn't as bad as it could be. It most definately is "Disneyfied" rustic. I'm sorryy'all don't like it, but then again I'm going for POFQ on this next one. I think it looks neat. At least Disney gives us the opportunity to try it, and if we don't like it, move on. Hope y'all find some place y'all like. :goodvibes

I thought the same thing when booking a moderate. POFQ was booked and I didn't want to take a chance on POR AB section. I have looked at pictues and think it is more rustic then WL - I don't know, I am just not that into it. The Mansions look so much nicer and I didn't want to chance it so we booked CSR. I am not the biggest fan of their rooms either :rotfl: but it seemed to be much better and I love love the resort are of Coronado Springs.

To the poster who asked if they could switch if Mansions weren't available, you probably could if there was room available elsewhere but lately Disney is selling out (esp POFQ) and I wouldn't take that chance. It would be WAY too hectic your first day if you did switch, esp with no rental car and if you have any discounts - you may not receive them at your new room.

Love the Mansion section!!! AB was just not for us. Didn't like the pictures either. Too rustic. Yeah, I know that is what it is suppose to look like, but I just love the Southern Mansion look.

FYI, All POR was just recently renovated so they shouldn't be worn in any section.

See this is why Disney creates so many different themes. Different strokes for different folks. We LOVED the AB section and although the Mansions were pretty, we just did not care for them. We walked over to them one day and just did not care for them. As for AB sections being old and rustic, yes they are suppose to look that way. The landscaping is very pretty and the quiet pathways are very scluded. We would not hestitate staying there again if need be...smjj
