Ok, just wondering if it is hot under the plane. Is solid deodorant ok, or will it melt? What about chips, poptarts or chocolate?
what aobut laundry powder in baggies? Will that get the bag searched?
Trying to figure out what to pack and what to order thru Greengrocers.

Actually I would expect it to be cold outside the passenger cabin of an aircraft not hot.

Solid deodorant is fine - I never had it melt. I have had chips in a checked bag and they were fine although a little crushed. We came back from Las Vegas earlier this year with Ethel M chocolates in our suitcase and they were fine.

Can't comment on whether detergent will be any more suspicious or not. Sometimes luggage search is a random thing.

No, it's normally COLD in the baggage compartment. At 30,000 feet the outside temperature is about -40 F. You don't have to worry about anything melting.

It might. Of course, your bag might be searched for any number of reasons. Chocolate and other dense foods (like peanut butter) frequently cause the TSA to search your bags, because dense foods have a similar looking profile to explosives when they are run through the scanner.

Personally I only carry laundry soap in its original packaging, because I don't want to have to explain why I have a baggie full of white powder! You can buy one-load packages. Be sure to put it in a zip-top bag. I had some laundry powder get loose in a suitcase one time, and believe me, it was a giant mess.

However, especially if you are flying in summer, the bags can sit around in very hot places while waiting to get on the plane.

Good point! Maybe not such a good idea to take chocolate in the summer, then.

I used to work the ramp loading planes and it does get hot in luggage compartment. If it's hot outside, depending on when they load the luggage some things could melt. Not solid deod., but choc. yes! Once your in the air then it's very cold. I used to hate it because people would and still do put their pets in there. :sad2: We always loaded them right before takeoff. It's dark too! :scared:
