Can someone explain this to me and when could it be used? I was toying with buying a resale with expiring points but I could use those points for a currently booked trip. That's why I am asking. Points are all for the same resot.
TIA

The answer is probably. Since they are home resort points, MS will typically allow members to swap out expiring points for non-expiring points, especially when the points come from a new contract that has been added to the membership.

Once you close, you would call MS and ask them if they could "reallocate" the points to use the expiring ones. Of course, if you have borrowed points as part of those reservations, those than not be returned. But, any current UY points you free up could still be banked.

I think the biggest problem would be making sure that you leave yourself enough time to buy, go through ROFR, close, and get the points in to your account in order to do this. Resale takes about 2 months from start to finish.

Good luck!!!

Here is another realocation use.

Lets say you book a BCV studio at 11 months. At 7 months you decide that you want to save your BCV points. Call MS and if a BCV studio is available, they can put your BCV points back and use your VWL points.

There are two things to look out for.

MS may return the BCV points to the wrong year.

Between the time that they see an available room and actually book it, another Adviser may snatch it away.

Thanks for the thoughts.:thumbsup2
Before I plunk down the money I should call MS to see if the ressie I have booked uses all or some banked / borrowed points and if this would fly. I guess I should also ask about making sure I could bank the current years points since it would be close to being inside my banking window. This is getting a little complex.popcorn:::goodvibes

Anything else to be aware of?

That would be the same as rebooking at that point no?

What is the relavence in keeping the confirmation #? Other than a room what is it tied to that won't stick around if you change it?

ADR's, DDP, ME, and any one that you have given the confirmation number to.

My ARD's haven't been cancelled when I have changed a confirmation#, we don't do the DDP. Would they reject you for ME if you have the tags and booklet or just change it at the counter?
Thanks for the insight, really like to read your posts as well.

The ADR's won't be canceled, but it could lead to problems if you have them noted to different reservation numbers. We are at WDW now and our ADR's are messed up because we had a wait list filled. Even though the reservations are linked, the ADR's are noted to the confirmation numbers matching the date of the ADR.

When we tried to get the Concierge Desk to print our ADR's, they couldn't find them until we used each separate confirmation number, and there are 4.

I don't think that ME will reject you, but they do need your correct confirmation number in their system. They might use it to deliver your luggage.

This "reallocation" thing is new to me (probably since we've never had a need to know), but it sounds like something we might want to do with a contract we're considering. It has 100 2009 points, and we're past our banking window, so we either use them right away or lose them. However, we have an upcoming vacation in April. So, assuming we pass ROFR, could we then reallocate the vacation by using our newly purchased 2009 points?
