Just curious, we got a birthday party invite on saturday for the party this coming saturday.
I kind of think a week is short notice. I always try to give about a 2 wk notice.
what do you think?

I think that 2 weeks is "normal." I have gotten them with shorter notice, though. A week is not bad. My DS once got an invitation for a weeknight party with a week's notice in kindergarten. It started at 7 and he goes to bed at 8. We didn't make that one.

We've definitely received birthday invitations in a week or less in recent years.

Two weeks is what would seem normal.
My DD has a July birthday and we sometime send invitations in May so that friends will be able to let us know if they're around and we can plan better. That is the other extreme.

Where I live it is about a week...although with teens it is like a day, b/c they don't tell you I got this invite like a week ago and it is tomorrow..:headache:

Two weeks notice is nice. We used to get invitations for kids parties when they were younger, with a week notice.

Does normal exist anymore when it comes to invites, rsvp's and planning?;)

Now I will admit that I got an last minute invite to a Christmas neighborhood thing that we did not attend because we got it 2 days before the party.

We already had things planned we wanted to do around the house and although we could have dropped our plans, we didn't.

We usually get them the week before.

I like to have at least a weekend before the party because we live 45-60mins away from any stores to buy a gift. But sometimes my kids will get one on Monday or Tues for a party that weekend.

There was a thread a while back on here where a mom was concerned because no one had responded for a party that was still like 3 weeks away. I have never received an invitation for a child's party two weeks or more in advance.

Yeah, just wait until you have teens. Word will go out by Facebook or text that someone is having a birthday party that night. Seriously. That's when you, as a mom, have to let go of any pride in picking out the perfect gift or wrapping it cutely. Some cash in a card - sure.

YEP!! I have been dealing with this for a long time and it is a :headache:

just recently though I have told the kids that it is THEIR responsibility for find the gift and everything else or just give them cash whatever they want ..;)

Around here it's about a week to a week and a half. Two weeks and people forget, about a week it gives them the weekend before to go shopping. Now our teenager, it's whenever she gets the text.

My girls have brought home a range of different invites- two weeks ago my 2nd grader brought a b-day invite home that had the party being in 3 DAYS after we received the invite! We didn't get to go, because of a hockey thing we had, but we still gave the little girl a gift, because my daughter is good friends with her.

My kinder. daughter brought home an invite WAYYYYYY too far in advance- the party was 6 weeks away!

I don't think that there really is a 'normal' we've gotten most of ours around 1 1/2 to 2 weeks in advance, but I don't really mind either way- because we have our 'month schedule' usually set by the beg. of each month (we have hockey trips planned, and we as a family SCHEDULE one weekend of doing NOTHING- which we spend as a family doing things around home or we go skating, to a movie or what ever)

After Christmas every year, I buy clearance gifts for different ages- 75% off of a $20-$30 gift is nice! That way my girls can bring nice presents, AND I don't have to rush out and get somthing every time we get a 'last minute' invite to a party! It saves us money and time. I have a 'gift' section in the top of my closet.

I am sending DS's about 3 weeks in advance. It is his first "friends" birthday party and I have to make the final payment 2 weeks in advance so I need a fairly good number so I don't overpay (at $16 a kid it is pricey!). I know it is a little far out, but I need to get some kind of idea....

Ha! Good luck! I would leave out the place where you're having it on the invites. Just put 'X's Birthday Party, Saturday X date, time' and 'Please call xxx-xxxx or e-mail mom@whatever.com to let me know if you can attend or not no later than X date'. I'll bet you'll get alot more calls then, they'll all want to know the location! :rotfl2:

We had a little party (not for a birthday, just for Valentine's Day) at our house this weekend. 3 people never bothered to call or e-mail even though I asked for them to please let me know by x date if they can come or not, 1 person said yes and never showed up. It didn't matter so much as we were just hanging out at my house, but I would have appreciated a call from the mom of the no-show so I wouldn't have made him a goody bag. (For the record, I know things happen...but call when you can. Even the next day or yesterday would have been nice!)

2 weeks buri have given 1 week as a make up date since had to postpone

ok so it isn't that unusual :)
now I need to get to the store for a gift! LOL

Dd13 hasn't let me pick out gifts for her gf's in years! I give her the money, or if it's something specific she can't walk somewhere to buy, I'll pick it up for her.
