I've seen moleskin mentioned in several of the US planning reports as a good remedy for blistered feet and was wondering what it is? Do we have it in the UK? Is it called moleskin over here?
Hi Paul moleskin is a bit like a think lint pad which you stick across blisters or hot spots on the feet. I have used this for previous trips and it works great. You can get it in Boots and porbably other chemists
For our last trip, I bought Compeed anti-blister stick (also available from Boots and other chemists). It looks like a tiny deodorant stick and has the texture of lip salve. It prevents the friction which causes blisters and I'm pleased to report that it does work.
Every morning, cover both feet entirely with the stuff and then the tops of my thighs (sorry for the image but I get a lot of rub despite not being at all overweight 14stone and 6`5) and my shoulder if I'm carrying a bag all day.
Works a treat, never a blister and nice dry non sweaty feet. It's actually just a strong anti-perspirant.
The £7.82 stick will last a family a whole trip, very well worth it. That's if your family want to share it :lol
You should never cover your entire feet with bodyglide..your feet need to breath. You actually perspire through your feet which helps you to keep cool and regulate your body temperature. If you cover your entire feet you may be at risk of overheating. This was something I learned while living here in texas (where it is hotter than hell!!!)...just a little heads up for ya..just apply the bodyglide where there is a chance you will get blisters. Another thing they tell us not to do in a hot country is apply deoderant to the feel also for the same reason.
I bought some Moleskin but am a bit unsure - if you have a blister forming and then cover it with the sticky moleskin, isn't that going to hurt like crazy when you try and take it off?
Certainly not a problem when I have used it. It has worked really well for me, but partly it success it applying it when you satrt to get a hot spot rather than a fully developed blister
