Right - about 90% of people on here say that daytona isn't worth doing a day trip for.

i have already been to clearwater so is miami beach worth doing it for a day.

i know that it will be very tiring - with the four hour journey from orlando then the four hour trip back to orlando - but i could sleep on the coach.

i think the excursion takes you to south beach and the shopping mall near there.

how does that sound?

Seems like a long way to go for shopping. I was in Miami and South Beach on Saturday. It was nice but I wouldn't drive 8 hours for a day in Miami.

If you want to see something different than Orlando I suggest taking a drive along the gulf coast and enjoy that side of FL.

If you are not driving yourself, then I would take the day trip to Miami. The Art Deco district is very cool and there's nothing like the women on South Beach! :thumbsup2 The shopping will be more expensive just because it's Miami.

Hi!

I live near Ft Lauderdale which is about 30-40 minutes from Miami.

I have been to Miami two or three times and found it to be way over priced and over the top. (I am originally from NY and lived and worked in NYC for many years so I am used to "Big City Life".)

The Art Deco District is very cool and South Beach is well South Beach (lots of beautiful people trying to impress). If you were going to travel to South Florida for a few days then you should check it out. Since you have one day I think it might be closer to visit Tampa and the west Coast of Florida which has been previously suggested. (Tampa is about an hour away from Disney World, Miami is about 4 hours away.) Tampa is a very cosmopolitan place (it is not Miami of course) and I'm sure has its share of shopping venues.

The Miami Vice movie is coming out soon-I'm sure you will be able to see lots of Miami and South Beach there... :rotfl:

I'm just going to throw my two cents in here again. I work in Tampa and there is absolutely no comparison between Miami and Tampa. Tampa is still a little city trying to act big and it should stay little. It has some very nice entertainment, i.e. art museums and theaters but I would still suggest Miami of it. However, the Gulf Coast in general is much nicer than the Gold Coast.

I don't think mmluvr was trying to say Tampa is like Miami. It was just a suggestion of a place to visit other than Miami.

I lived in Miami for 2.5 years. I left hating it. It's ok to visit, I guess. There's tons of museums, shops, beaches, etc. everything is so expensive, it's crazy. If you go on the turnpike and not I95, it's a 3 hour drive.
