WHAT is going on with all the power failures?

Just googled wdw power failures and found this interesting article

So during the storms, perhaps certain transformers were hit by lightning. Still seems odd that it would happen so often this year, and reportedly once with no visible storm at all.

I would imagine that wdw has enough back up generator supply to power a small country

Actually, RCID has only enough generation to handle about 20% of its needs.

What was it like while the power was off? I can’t imagine that people were too happy...

We flew in June 5th and everything from flight, magical express and early check in went perfectly. We joked things were going to smoothly. We get to AK around 12 PM and as we were going through security cast members said power was out everywhere but Pandora with no ETA. We asked if if we could get another park reservation (nothing available on MDE) and was told not likely but we could go to Guest Services. We decided to go in and Pandora looked like opening day. We mobile ordered Satuli, but the only availability was 2 hours out, so I stood in line at Pongu Pongu (I think that's the name) for 30 minutes to get a pretzel as we were all starving. We just sat there until Satuli was ready. Once done with Satuli lines for Navi were down to 45 minutes so we decided to do that to kill time. I'll never wait that long for that ride again. I knew better, but we were anxious to get on an attraction. Once done FOP was 60 so we did that. When we were done power was back so we went to the Safari and then halfway during our wait for Everest it started pouring and it shut down again. We called it a day and decided our trip wouldn't start untl the 6th. Luckily the rest of the week was a blast.

Outdoor rides going down in the afternoon happens usually several times a week in the summer due to storms, thats not at all unusual.
Like I said though, something else was happening at AK. But I don't think anybody knows what. I haven't heard of any other parks having those kind of issues, just storms putting rides out.

I've seen them stop rides due to storms, but wasn't aware they'd lost power. Yes, something weird at AK, and that coupled with the other outages seemed unusual Thanks luv2cheer92
