When we went to the Mouse House last year, we completely missed Fantasmic. I just wondered what it was all about...what the "storyline" was... :thumbsup2

TIA!

It's a show that combines fireworks, live actors and clips from Disney movies projected on water screens. My children love it...especially DD4 because she is completely taken with Mickey. DSis was not as impressed. She thought the show relied too much on the movie scenes. There are plenty of adults here who say it is their favorite show though. I enjoy it because the kids do, but I would rank it a distant third behind Wishes and Illuminations.

We also always do the Fantasmic Dining Package because none of us would wait an hour in line just to get into the stadium and then wait at least another half hour for the show to start. With the dining package, you just have the wait inside the stadium.

Have fun!

Oh man. I can't believe we missed that one! Sounds super awesome!

Thanks Bleeps!

liamandcaili-we were thinking of doing the Fantasmic! dinner package next time we go. Which restaurant did you eat at?

The water screen thing is pretty cool.:earsboy:

I've seen it 3 times and I have to admit its not my favorite. But the last time, my DD 5 was so taken with the show-- She loved it and after she turned to me and said "Mickey's an Awesome guy, Mom!" She loved it!!

Try to see it next time. Since its not my favorite we didn't get there early and we entered about 10 minutes before the show. We got the last seats.
The 1st time I went to see it in 1999 we didn't get to see it because it was full and that was 45 minutes before the show starts.

If is busy season get there early. They have food and restrooms in the stadium.

We ate at Brown Derby. It gets mixed reviews here, and mixed reviews from me too (the first time it was great, the second, ordinary), but the restaurant does have a very attentive and knowledgable staff, we never felt rushed and DS just loves the grilled cheese. He has some food allergies, so there are many things he can't have at Disney, but apparently, the grilled cheese at Brown Derby is excellent. I wouldn't know. I had the tuna (rare) with wasabi mashed potatoes...excellent!...and the filet mignon...disappointing, especially as this is supposed to be a signature dish.

I am sure we will go back...afterall, it's the best grilled cheese on property according to DS. :) I wouldn't mind trying Mama Melrose's but we wouldn't do Hollywood and Vine since it is buffet. Buffets are out with food allergies, which is fine. I don't like them anyway.

The storyline plays right on classic Disney themes. In the beginning, we see Mickey control water, just like he was doing in The Sorcerer's Apprentice in the 1940's movie Fantasia. Must say, Mickey uses the water (and fireworks) to make some cool scenes for all us to look at. :)

Then we see more examples of imagination - clips from Disney movies projected onto the water, and live action scenes from Lion King and Pocahontas. Then we see some "beautiful" things from Mickey's imagination - namely the princesses and their princes on boats passing by. :)

Well, all this prettiness doesn't go unnoticed by the Disney villains! The Snow White Queen comes out and decides to stop Mickey and his imagination. She turns into the Old Hag and summons the other Disney villains to come and help stop Mickey, and turn his imagination into a nightmare! Jafar turns into a large serpant and tries to chase and corner Mickey. The Hades starts showing scary, awful images to Mickey. Mickey is getting quite concerned and worried by this point, but he remains strong.

Then Maleficent comes out, the most powerful of the villains, trying to finish off Mickey's imagination. She turns into a dragon and spews out fire everywhere, which surrounds poor Mickey. Mickey looks doomed, the villains are winning! But wait - Mickey suddenly becomes confident, but why?? As shown in the beginning, Mickey can control water! Water can put out fire! He uses his powers to make water appear everywhere, which promptly puts out all the fire from the dragon Maleficent. Maleficent and the other villains, realizing Mickey now has won, literally get sucked down the drain! Then Mickey and all his good Disney friends appear on the classic Steamboat Willie, and some more fireworks from Sorcerer Mickey finish up for the finale. :)

This is probably more plot than you were looking for, but I love Fantasmic! It is a story of good vs. evil, and good wins! :)

DS and I loved it last year. DH said it was good but not his favorite. We didnt do the dinner package last year but have it booked at MaMa Melrose in June. :cool1:

We tried in Nov. 04' to do the dinner package - we ate at Hollywood and Vine and really enjoyed the selection at the buffet. My DS almost 5 at the time saw the dragon on the map and in the restaurant and told us we refused to go. We tried to tell him it was fun and that he would love it, but NO!!!! So we gave our tickets away. When we got to WDW we went to AK first and he 1st ever attraction was It's Bugs Life and it freaked him out and kind of set the tone for the rest of the trip!!! So we are trying again this Sept. - he will be closer to 7 and it will have been almost 2 years and we're hoping he forgot!!!!

We love it! It is personally one of my favorites and we've seen it three times total. I encouraged a friend to see, but I guess it never occured to me how scary the viallains could be. My friend said her 5 year old did not enjoy it because it was so dark and the villains and fire spooked her. My own 5 and 8 year old loved it - so just be aware if you have little ones. But it is surely worth the wait for good seats if you do go to see it.

Wow thanks, its a cold wet Sunday morning here and I've just gone back to MGM and remembered how much I love that show-I have tears rolling down my cheeks as I type this-thanks :thumbsup2
