What is everyone doing at home to keep busy while the pin event is going on?

For our family, school starts this Monday morning. UUGH! Where did the summer go? We've been trying to find all the school supplies off of our list, picking up class schedules and any last minute clothes shopping. The clothes shopping is the worst. I have a middle schooler and a 4th grader and they feel that mom doesn't pick out "cool" clothes anymore.
I think the pin event for me would be exciting and alittle intimitating at the same time. I haven't been collecting very long and tend to be on the shy side. I don't know how well I would do trying to trade what I have, which isn't very much, I tend to keep more. I would have taken a stab at it though, if it had been a possibility.
I've really enjoyed reading the news that comes in and try to picture myself there.
Can't wait to read the news on todays events.

like Ramva, I keep planning that last minute trip to the pin trading, not that I get to go lol.
Mostly I will be trying to keep out of the heat and doing a few little home repairs. I know the only clothes thing but some of what is in right now my dd will not get to wear for many many years. gees mom. Bet we have all heard that.

I've been enjoying the heat wave. Swimming, biking and walking and other boring chores. Tomorrow I am going to Fredericksburg VA to bike the battlefield and do some other sightseeing. Working on my friends visit to my place in Sept and my trip to WDW as soon as they leave.

started school on Wed., I'm not used to the East coast where
they start so early!!! I too am kind of intimidated by the
pin collectors...I've been to 2 events and usually just watch everyone...
I am planning on going to the Pin meet SAt. Night but I am nervous! (I'm shy too)

I had to laugh at the clothing thing...My son thinks I am so "out of it" when it
comes to style...but there was this really cute girl with hip hugger jeans and big
shoes....I loved seeing my sons face when I told him that's what I wore when I was
in Jr. High!! (like I came out of a cave) haha

The trip to Williamsburg sounds great...I can't wait to start traveling the coast here.(we moved about 8 months ago from Ca.) But it is too hot to go anywhere.

......but, I only have a few hours to either get a flight (cheap of course) or find someone to drive me down (driving all night of course) find a room to sleep in when I get there, and of course to pack my clothes and pins, although the pins won't be too hard since there are only about 30 of them!

I would never be brave enough to jump in and trade with all these people (I don't think); I just want to trade off the CM lanyards, since it sounds like they have way better than I could even dream of! There are some advantages to being a newbie and a small fish!!!

Otherwise, I'm working at my new job in the Admissions office of our local community college (one of the reasons I really couldn't plan to go--although as it turns out we are not at all busy today and they really could have done without me). Only have 1 son going back to school, and he's 16, so it's not really a big deal; and since it will still be hot, he'll be wearing the new summer clothes he got before our June trip to WDW for a while.

did you know that two little fish make a bigger fish? I wish we were closer because we could go together and I bet if we stayed a team we could work up the courage to try a trade (then they could laugh at us and we could go back to castmember trading)

I am sitting here and whinning.

Now Ruthie - I live in BAltimore - and that is close to Virginia - and I would drive - way did we not think of this yesterday - we would just barely make it for the Saturday night meet now.

I know someone that has room in her room and I have been invited - I could take my blow up bed - but would have to be back to work by Monday morning - see - it would not work.

Oh well - it was a great fantasy for 5 seconds.

What am I doing while the big Pin Event is on? Reading the DIS Boards, of course, and getting to know some of the other shy "lurkers" who usually don't post much, like me. There's nobody left out there except us wall-flowers!! ( sniff ! sniff!)
Actually, I'm here in heat & humidity drenched New England, trying to stay cool. Yesterday, we were out on an island in Penobscot Bay on the Maine coast with friends having lunch, staying cool, and fishing for mackerel on the way home ( yes, we caught a few and had them for supper). Tomorrow we will be on the coast with friends again. Not too bad a way to spend a day!

Didn't you get my message?! I told you my son would chaufeur us if we could go in your "pin" cruiser! If I knew you had a room, and if someone would have given me a floor to sleep on, I would have gone in a heartbeat--and we could have left him home and taken turns driving ourselves! Or found a third person to go with--although I don't think anyone else has been whining as loud as me!

When is the next one? I want to go!

ohhhhhhh....... you mean that thing going on in WDW? The one my partners and i are winning!!! Well, the temps in the MA have been close to or gone over the 100 degree mark -so after my workshops each day, i have come home and collapsed in our a/c!! We have done little in the way of outdoor work but done some nice relaxing!

I went to the beach for the week to keep my mind off of the fun I'm missing in FL. WOW, was it hot there!!! I almost melted...honest.
