DH and I were invited to an event on Sunday and the invitation specified "daytime formal" attire. I have no idea what this would be. Any ideas for men and women?

By the way, this is not a wedding.

I don't think that's an official designation. I've never heard it before.

Is it the type of event that you could call the host/hostess and ask what you should wear? If not, I'd probably do a dark suit and tie for men and a nice daytime dress (like a dress you'd wear to church) for women. Actually, a dress with spaghetti straps or no straps at all and a wrap of some sort, with the dress in a daytime (non-shiny) fabric would probably be okay, too (but would not be okay at most churches).

Thanks for the help. I can't call a host - DH's company is putting on the event and all they keep saying is "daytime formal".

It's actually a movie premiere with a reception in a hotel ballroom afterwards. It's Sunday afternoon (hence the "daytime") and is for families (kids too).

I would guess suit and tie for the gentleman and a nice short or tea length dress (as opposed to a gown). I agree o nthe non-shiny fabric for the whole dress, though it can be an accent (like on the bodice or trim).

I would guess they do not want business casual which is polos, button shirts and slacks.
