I have read this site on and off over the past few months, and I feel a bit confused as to what exactly is planned for Fantasy Land and Hyperion Wharf.

1) Will Fantasy Land really have a new coaster?

2)Is there still plans for some type of Ariel ride? (Were there EVER plans for that, or am I nuts?

3) What differentiates Hyperion Wharf from the rest of Downtown Disney? Isn't it just a restaurant area? Last I checked, there were restaurants all over Downtown Disney.

Thanks!

1.Yes
2.Yes (Yes)
3.Hyperion Wharf will just be more of the same (looked like it would have more pretty lights -Whoopee).

I think a lot of FLE and hyp. wharf is open to opinion/interpretation still.

1. By coaster....... I think you should say "coaster". It sounds like its going to be a little kids kinda coaster ride to me - no real drops or anything. I could be wrong though.

2. no idea

3. Its more a brand with no content so far. They've confirmed one restaurant and a grassed area near the water. Oh and theres gonna be lots of lights. Thats all thats confirmed so far.

Its going to be like BTM do you consider that a kiddie coaster?

Well, just going from the concept art but it didn't look like it had a big drop (which is OK with me). While much bigger than the Barnstormer, it is still a good bit smaller than BTM. Again, with the new built in "swaying" they are putting in the mine carts it might be every bit exciting as BTM but on a smaller slower track enabling you to enjoy the dark ride portion of the setting all the while keeping the family friendliness of a FL ride.

what have you heard/seen that led you to that conclusion? Everything I've ready about it so far seems to suggest it wont be the size, height or have the speed of BTM.

But like BTM which also has really no drops its a type of coaster that doesn't need them.

personally, I think we're talking more "Casey Jr. Le Petit Train du Cirque" from dlrp than BTM.

From the Disney Press release:

•The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train will take guests on a rollicking, musical ride into the mine “where a million diamonds shine.” The coaster will feature a first-of-its kind ride system with a train of ride vehicles that swing back and forth, responding to every twist and turn of the track. The journey will be accompanied by music from the classic Disney film and animated figures of Snow White and the Dwarfs.

So, clearly Disney considers it a coaster...it's right there in the press release. By the fact that there are animated figures, and they call it "rollicking" instead of using a term like "high-speed" or "thrill" I sort of expect it to be more on the lines of a "wild mouse" type coaster, with much twisting and turning, but not a lot of high-speed or up-and-down. I suppose BTMRR might be the closest comparison of any other Disney attraction, as it will certainly be larger than Goofy's Barnstormer (which totals 23 seconds from the time you get to the top of the drop until you are getting out of your car), and BTMRR also has very limited drop hills, though again I suspect it will be somewhere between the two in intensity.

Space Mountain is a Wild Mouse coaster, with very compact with lots short quick turns. That sort of model would not work with incorporating a dark ride story model.
In form I also think BTM is the closest coaster but this ride will not be an in between model of any two coasters. To make the carts swaying/swinging a possibility you are talking about something that doesn't stress the vehicle in any way similar to a coaster. I'm thinking that tracks won't have any (or very little through the swaying effects) banking to make this affect possible.
This would probably mean that it has a much more evened speed throughout the ride and probably would be even slower than the Barnstormer (at least at the drops).
My suggestion would be an in between comparison of Splash Mountain (with no big drop) and BTM would be more accurate.

Did I miss something where Disney confirmed a new restaurant? There's a strong hint on the Schussler website, but that has been wrong before (anyone else remember when they said Hot Dog Hall of Fame would be coming to an Orlando theme park?).

oops no my bad. not even thats confirmed!

I think anyone expecting a true coaster is somewhat delusional. It is going to be something a 5 year old would enjoy. I think the "wow" is going to be in the visuals and perhaps the sensation of being suspended (different sense of movement from most rides like that). I can't see them putting in a true thrill ride. Also, the fact that it is set to music from the movie kind of suggests something relatively tame.

Jason, my Save Pleasure Island Blog is the source of the Hot Dog Hall of Fame rumor. I never reported it was coming. After I published the video of the secret meeting DTD officials had with with the Schussler Creative people and a month later they announced PI was shutting down, I mentioned a few of the Schussler concepts. I asked, was Hot Dog Hall of Fame coming to Pleasure Island?

More definite is the Mahogany Bay Classic Old Boats and Great Food Restaurant. Disney has not announced it yet but the Minneapolis Star-Tribune did and that link was published on my Blog. And the Schussler website hinted at it.
