My family and I'll be staying at HRH in June and wondering about appropriate amount for tips we need to give out to bell hops, maides... and such. I've always tipped when I stayed at hotels and restaurants(15%) but it is still very confusing to figure out the right amount for the right situation in hotel.

I would really like to know how you guys handle the tip when you stay in Universal hotels. I don't want to be a cheapscate but neither do I want to be overly generous. I guess I don't want to pay more than I have to pay and still be gracious to helpers as well.

one dollar for each bag at check in

1-5 dollars for housekeeping depending on how many in your family and the condition of your room

I've always heard a buck a bag and two bucks a day for housekeeping.

We tip a dollar per bag to the bellhops. You will have one bellman who unloads your bags from the car and brings them into the hotel. Then you will have another who takes the bags to your room. So that's 2 tips to bellmen at check-in.

I get confused about all that stuff so I just carry my own bags to my room.:p

ya'll are great with your input, but do you guys tip valet who park and bring your car, and how about doorman who get your taxi or just open the dooor for you???

If you order room service, do you tip those guys who deliver your food too? I'm definately not going to tip everyone who helps my family and I at the hotel nor am I going to tip like Robert Denero(SP?), still I wouldn't want to be seen as country bumpkin who makes "foe paw" every where she goes, btw, anybody here ever computed tip money you spent after your Universal or Disney vacation?

I believe in planning and every extra info helps!!!

If we have to tip twice going in  I can assure you that we will be carrying our own bags going out! :D

Seriously, we have a limo hired. Will our limo driver not take our bags inside for us? We will be tipping him/her anyway! Then, we would only need to tip the bellman that delivers to the room.

I think $1 bag for luggage and $5 a day for housekeeping is just about right.

Room Service includes a tip. I can't remember what it was, probably 15 or 18%. If you think they were exceptional, or if you normally tip 20% or so, you can always add to that. Otherwise, you can stick with the amount on your bill. Be sure to look at the check when you sign it. It has it all detailed.

Stick around here and you'll get all the planning advice your brain can handle, then a little more too. I was there last October and have been planning my next trip since February.

I hate when they have 2 bell hops at check-in.I give the first one 2 dollars and the one who takes the bags to the room $10.00.I reload my own car during the last day so im cutting out the rush of getting the van packed and the cash for doing nothing.

For the first time, we had the bellmen help us out with our luggage yesterday when we left. I don't know how much DH tipped them. There were actually 2 of them trying to help him load the car and he finally told them he could handle it. When I was there with the kids (without DH) I tried to pack up the car on my own, but they wouldn't leave me alone. :p

As for room service, they add a 20% tip on to your room service bill so that is taken care of for you.

 Yikes! $10??? Tigerguy, unless you pack like my sisters(10 bags?), or isn't it little too generous? If this is the going price, I'm packing everything in my faniepack and carrying myself, My DH can tip me!

I guess I'll have to pay house keeping though, I'm not going to clean at all during my vacation. DH has to tip maids, I'm putting my foot down! :smooth:
