What is a PIN?

I keep seeing mentions of people getting a PIN with their reservation, which seems to be some type of discount. Can anyone explain what it is and how people get it?

You can get information regarding pins on the discount codes and rates board at the top of this board.

It is received through e-mail or snail mail directly to you and there is absolutely no rhyme or reason who gets them and who doesn't.
