what is a key to the world card ?

It's your room key and you use it to charge ship board purchases to your room account. When you get on/off the ship, you tap your room key to a reader so they know if you are on-board or not.

They are issued to you in the terminal when you check-in for your cruise.

ahhh shucks that just crazy, tell me how you find out about what order is your rotational dining ? ( the restaurants )

i thought i might be able to find that info out before hand ,oh well

You also need to place your KTTW card into a card slot just inside your door to turn your lights, A/C and TV on. You can go to Guest Services to receive a blank card to keep in the slot when you are gone to keep said items on. We used one to help keep a light on in the room because our kids did not like walking into a dark room.

Except on the Magic (and possibly the Wonder, but we've not been on that ship so I can't speak to that).

You can use any credit card-sized card. I just used my old library card.

I use my metro card. On our last cruise, someone made us a fish extender that was a card with the cruise name and dates, a picture of the ship and (this was genius) a magnet on the back. When you take it out of the socket (or housekeeping did), they just put it on the wall right above the socket. Then you just drop it in. Never loose it.

The key slot only controls the lights and the TV. The AC still works and anything you have plugged in (charging an Ipad) still work:) As others have said any card will work, any gift card, Coatco card.

It also tells you what your muster station is in the event of an emergency evacuation (the "N" on PrincessShmoo's keycard is her muster station - these letters are seen in various places when you have to evacuate so you can follow them and know where to meet up) and if you are taking DCL transfers to the airport ("A") or WDW or other Disney booked resort ("R") after the cruise. If you are, you won't need a ticket - they'll just check your card (it also lists if they are picking you up at the airport or resort to transport you to the port ("P"), but it's kind of irrelevant since you don't get the card until you are at the port). Also, as you can see, it lists your dining rotation, your dining time and your table number.
