What is a 'guest of honor badge'?

Are these something that kids get if visiting on their birthday??

I know you can buy them at WDW, they are badges (pins) with your name engraved on them. They come in Mickey, Minnie, Pooh, and Tigger (that I know of). They are cute and usually guarantees the wearer to be addressed by name by some of the CM's.

Actually, they are personalized badges that look much like the CM's badges (except different in color) and they say "guest of honor" on them with your name above it and a picture of a Disney character. These are not the same as the birthday badges.

They look similar to the name badges the CMs wear.

I love mine....I had it made years ago when they included engravign a hometown.

I DON'T think that these badges are appropriate for small children. A stranger, CM or otherwise, should not be allowed to address your child by his/her first name. It breeds a false sense of familiarity for a child and places him/her at increased risk. We never allow our 5 yr old son to wear a "name" badge in public. JMHO...............

Eros makes a good point. Young children should not wear name tags, t-shirts ect. with thier mane on them. I remember a little girl I grew up with nearly got in a car with a man because he said, "Suzy, I am here to pick you up your Mom told me too." He called her by name and of course she didn't think about it being on her t-shirt.

They sell them with the characters names on them, so perhaps you could just get their favorite character.

I can see your point Eros, especially in an area where the children are going to be moving around freely like on a slide or playset. On another board someone brought up the fact that we are always calling our children by their name, so if a stranger wanted to know their name it wouldn't be difficult for them to find out. It would actually be easier since the stranger would only have to be within hearing distance and not reading distance. I would never put it on their shirt where it is big enough to read from far away.

A while back mouseshoppe.com was selling them online, which saved me the time of buying it when we got to WDW.

This way, I already had it when we arrived!

During our last trip in February, I was only addressed once by name, and it was from a CM at Test Track.

When I was buying Laila perfume in The Puffin's Roost (Norway's gift shop) the CM ringing up my purchase looked at it as if he had never seen one before, like he was wondering what made me a "guest of honor!" I got a good laugh out of it! The look on his face was priceless!

The badges are cute, but we have never bought them for our kids for the very reasons Eros metioned.

I see your point of danger but we sure have enjoyed ours. My niece and nephew wore theirs for like 2 weeks everyday when they got home last year. They wouldn't leave home w/o it!
