Halloween is quickly approaching, and I was thinking it would be fun to make a list of good Halloween Movies for kids. In no particular order, here are three that I have come up with:

1- The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (The Legend of Sleepy Hollow)
2- Hocus Pocus
3- Death Becomes Her

It's been ages since I've actually seen any of these, and so I can't say they are really good, or that they are appropriate for kids. That's why I'm asking for your help. Please let me know what your ideas are.

Not sure of the ages you have, but there is a cute Pooh Halloween movie, as well as a House of Mouse DVD where the villains take over. Love it because it has many of the old school Disney Halloween shorts.

Definetly Hocus Pocus and the Halloween town movies.

I third Hocus Pocus and the Holloween Town Movies.....I have them all and plan on a marathon soon

Unless they are teens, I wouldn't keep Death Becomes Her on that list- it is pretty dark with lots of sexual innuendo/partial nudity and cursing (and I am not a prude in the least).

Good Halloween movies for tweens:
-any of the Halloweentown movies
-Twitches and the sequel
-Hocus Pocus
-Haunted Mansion
-Tower of Terror
-Nightmare Before Christmas
-Monster House
-Scary Godmother
-The Little Vampire
-Casper
-Addams Family and Addams Family Values
-House of Mouse House of Villians

For younger kids:
-Adventures of Ichabod and Mr Toad
-It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
-Pooh's Heffalump Halloween Movie
-Mickey Mouse Clubhouse- Mickey's Treat

This is GREAT!

I haven't ever heard of the Halloweentown series, but it looks like it might be worth watching.

I'll definitely keep the kids away from Death Becomes Her. I seemed to remember it was something I watched when I was a little older.

How could I have forgotten The Great Pumpkin?!?!

Any thoughts on Double, Double Toil and Trouble, with the Olsen twins? I know, I know, it's the Olsen twins. I would deserve whatever I get with that (insert Pete's voice for that last sentence).

Our family loves Spookeley the Square Pumpkin.

I use Ichabod with my students every year. I also love Halloweentown.

There's also Coraline and the Corpse Bride

One we used to watch when we were kids was Monster Party.

I think double double toil & trouble is good! it was one of my favorites when I was a kid!

These are great for kids of all ages:

Halloweentown
It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

For the older kids:

The Halloween Tree

As a youth, I remember people talking about Watcher in the Woods and Something Wicked This Way Comes. Does anyone know about either of those?

I LOVED The Watcher in he Woods. Seriously, Bette Davis was great. I have the book in a trunk with all of my other don't touch childhood books. I watched the movie with my kids a few years ago. I may have gotten it from Netflix.

I LOVE Something Wicked This Way Comes. Jonathan Pryce is fantastic! It's also got a spider squishing scene that is so gross, but kids love that.

The original Good Witch movie was out on regular DVD if you can find it. It's really good.

I bet others have already mentioned Halloweentown movies. Those have been my DD's favorite movies to watch on Halloween for a few years now.

I thought of a couple more...

I'm on a business trip right now, and had time to sit and watch The Ghost and Mr. Chicken. Good and clean, and funny. Don Knotts was one in a million.

While I was watching it, I remembered Blackbeard's Ghost. Another fun one. I might consider pulling it out to watch with my daughter. She will be five this month!!! I thinks that's probably a good age for this one.
