Ok, so you all know me and how conservative and restrained I am and how I am usually pretty quiet and careful about what I say. So given that description, what I am about to say is very out of character for me.

As a family we were sitting in the living room the other night and I had just turned on the television to check the news. ESPN was reporting on the upcoming baseball season and I wanted to make sure I had accounted for all the players in the major leagues (this should not come as earth shattering news, I am sure everyone watches Sports Center as their sole source of current events). Anyways, I had just gotten new batteries for my remote control and I was testing it out. So every time Trina started to talk I was pressing the volume button and when she stopped talking I pressed the volume button again. I swear, the remote was upside down. I really did mean to lower the volume when she was talking and raise it when she finished (that’s my story and I am sticking to it).

So right after I got smacked the side of the head with a pillow and an empty battery box (luckily it was AA and not car batteries I was changing), she said, “You didn’t hear a word I said” at which I replied, “I did too, I distinctly heard you use the word ‘the’ so don’t tell me I didn’t hear a word.” So she then asked, what are we going to do about Mallorie? At that point I looked up and all the kids were staring at me waiting for me to say something about something. So I said, “The temperature in Orlando was 82 degrees that is not nearly as hot as it was in September”. The kids began jumping up and down and dancing around the room. I had no idea that my kids were such weather fans but I felt good that I had brought happiness to their lives. That night as I was getting ready for bed and fixing the couch since I would most likely be sleeping there after the whole upside down remote business, (I have half a mind to write a letter to the Pioneer Electronics Company telling them that they need to manufacture their remotes with a label showing which end of the remote is the top. Either that or they need to include a more comfortable sofa sleeper with the purchase of a television.) Trina comes up to me with one of those “don’t you dare replace my nativity set with Diamondbacks bobblehead figures” looks and asks, “So when did you plan to tell me you were taking the family to Walt Disney World?” Well I have no idea what she is talking about and I can’t find my remote control so I am completely helpless here. It seems that what I missed in the earlier conversation is that our second daughter Mallorie wanted the family to take a vacation together before she goes to college. Trina was asking if we should take the kids camping and I gave them the weather in Orlando. So now I find myself in the planning stages of a family excursion to Walt Disney World. This is where I need your help. I need to find activities for the whole family and I thought who better than the members of the DIS?

So here are the specifics. We are taking four children to Orlando in May (the fourth through the twelfth) Mallorie (17), Tiffany (13), Whitney (10) and Dakota (6). Mallorie and Tiffany have been to WDW once and that was nearly 12 years ago. The other two have never gone. I would like to hear what types of things you would recommend to make this a magical experience. And I have already been vetoed when I suggested we could use this as an excuse for a pin meet.

Jeff

So this explains why someone named "arizonabaseballwidow" has a set of Diamondbacks bobbleheads for sale on eBay and says she will accept "Paypal, money orders, or Disney pins." :teeth:

Well, there are character meals. Chef Mickey's is always fun, as is Donald's Breakfastasaurus. Go to 50's Prime Time so someone besides their mother can scold their father. That's bound to make for good family entertainment. ;)

Ask to ride in the front of the monorail.
The downside you are allowed four in the front. So you may have to make a kids only ride, or ride twice. ;) Plus you most likely will have a little wait. But it is very special -- esp if you can time it right as the fireworks are going off. :)
Make sure you see the electrical water parade too. Very cool.

There is just so many things wrong with this first paragraph I can't even start to find the words...

Oh you just don't know this man - he LIVES to ride in the front of the monorail. If it came down to him or the kids - the kids would be hanging on to a bar in the second to last monorail car..lol

Jeff.. I think what you need is a babysitter to help you take care of the kids. And what do you know, I just happen to be available that week. :)

Zanax, Valium, Vicadin, Cosmos...by the gallon!
I think that just about covers it Mr. Conservative!!!
How about dinner with Ed, me, Stich and the kids!!!!!
Manny

Please tell me that you will be in WDW sometime between May 22nd and 30th????

We are also doing <i>one last family trip</i> before DS#1 takes off (hopefully) forever to educational institutions and beyond.

The concept of the "Burnsides meet the Summers" is something worthy of a <b>Family Fued</b> Mega Special!
:scared1: :jumping1: :scared1:

because the girls are basically newbies and will want to see everything. Try and get up early and do the most popular rides first. My dd chose these things as part of her major musts:
go to the beach one day
horseback ride at FW
Mission Space
Tower of Terror
Disney Quest
pool time
The MK Mountains
Epcot

I love Festival of Lion King!

Okay, you probably really didn't want help but great story, make the kids choose things before you go and set up a couple of meals with ps now.

I forgot the important planning stuff:
spend lots of time trying to figure out how many pictures your digital camera will hold on each card, read lots of info and still be unsure, and ponder how many rolls of film you should buy as well for the regular camera........

Really how much stuff can you fit in your carry-on without killing you as you run through the airport (and in your case be prepared to add the weight of everyone else's carryon bag since you are the big strong dad)

think of all the great stuff you really want to do, then freak out at how much it really costs to do that, then go back and forth between excitement at the fun stuff and depression over the cost of the whole affair......:D   :earseek:

:wave2:

In all seriousness, the vast majority of all the Disney Magic that has occurred for our family in the five visits we've made to WDW in the past (nearly) three years was a direct result of Brian getting a haircut on our very first full day in the MK. Our barber, Billie Craig (still a CM but may or may not be in the barbershop during your visit - it just depends on her schedule) has become a treasured friend, and she gave us such wonderful ideas and advice during that first visit. She's an absolute angel! (And she is a great barber! We've all had haircuts by Billie over the years.) ::yes::

Some of the very best advice that Billie gave us during our first trip back in June of 2001... "don't overplan your visit... you sometimes have to let the Disney Magic find you and not the other way around."

Have a great time!

Sandy (and Brian, Bonnie & Kellie)

My advice would be let Ed take the kids somewhere on your first day; after the kiddies are in the protective custody of childrens aid, you won't have to worry about finding baby sitters or losing them in the parks. Think of the memories the kids will have of Orlando. When the school year starts they will have one doozy of a "What I did on my summer vacation" report.

Okay, that shows just why the Tag Fairy gave me that tag over yonder...

alright, alright, alright... I'll claim him... but he's got to promise to play nice!

Only because I'm such a good friend I will take care of Mallorie (17) You have not a care in the world, as I will take good care of her and make sure she has a good time. :teeth:

P.S word of advice... Keep the family away from the pin traders they're nuts.

Look I'll tell you what I know you need that quality time, with that special somebody, so I'll take Trina and the kids out while you go pee in the corners of the Stadium that still has the Braves smell to it. :teeth:

Listen not to worry about Mallorie, but if by chance we end up in jail, and this is all hypothetical mind you... would that affect her chances at college? But don’t worry I have an awesome Bail Bondsman we'll be out 45 minutes tops.

Okay for one night I can watch the kids, but we’ll need lighter fluid, some matches, and a bicycle bell, so make sure they come prepared. Oh they can all swim right?

Now Mallorie dress warm and you will need to bring some things as well, we’ll need a 23’ ladder, a flashlight and one of your dad’s credit cards. Preferably the green one that says American Ex… something.

Okay I gotta go I need to plan for your arrival… now where is that rope and my handcuffs????

Ah, that is what I love about this place. It is not your average Disney travel planning site. See if I stuck to those tourist books I would have missed out on all of these unique recommendations. I mean I would have never thought of lighting a barber's hair on fire while standing around practicing better living through chemistry.

All very good ideas (well all but the idea of bailing out my 17 year old -- but then that didn't sound too bad to me but Trina kind of got tipped over).

I especially love the idea of the monorail, I wonder what the kids are going to do while Dakota and I hijack the front of a monorail?

Jeff, Beauregard suggests you take the family to the Hoop-de-Doo. He thinks that is your kind of humor :)!

Ed, I tried to explain to Beauregard that you have teenage granddaughters & that you know how "to take care of them!"

Wait, I thought hoop-de-Doo was a slang term for being hopped up on drugs. No wonder the cop looked at me funny when I told him I thought the guy in Section 121 was all Hoo-de-dooed. Boy is my face red.

Ed is a real humanitarian. I heard he does a lot of work with un-wed mothers. Wait, was that my outside voice that said that?

I have better than that, I have granddaughters ages 11, 17, 19 (college girl, and my favorite)

Its easy, start telling them at age 2 all boys are evil, they bite, and it hurts. Also if they bite you, you'll turn Republican and want to run for office. :teeth:

Hey dont laugh its worked so far.
