What in the world is happening with all the fridge swaps???

Yes, you are allowed to bring it.

We participated in a Christmas tree swap at the Boardwalk this past November/December and we hand carried the tree ourselves - both ways.

The number one reason that Disney would have to 'selectively' discontinue the line of fridge swapping is due to space. 20+ Fridges would really take up a LOT of space.

I HIGHLY doubt that Disney would send a perfectly good fridge to the landfill - I would imagine those fridges go into the circulation of rental fridges either at that resort or another resort.

Disney isn't a wasteful company - and if anything, I would imagine they were sold as abandoned property.

I really can't stand it when people paint Disney as a greedy, money grabbing company, but yet, those same people have a very high level of affinity for Disney and keep going back time and time again. If I felt as though I were doing busy with a greedy dirty rotten company, I would cut the ties.

In the studios, the fridge is in a cabinet at some - so while it might work at some resorts, at other resorts the fridge is just in a doorless cabinet box if I remember right.

SO, you might be right - that may be the 'final destination' for some missing fridge-swap fridges! :thumbsup2

I'm strongly feeling that Disney has just decided to make most of them disappear; because 20 refridgerators here on the DIS may have actually been 200 fridges if there were swaps on places like Facebook, etc.

Plus I can think of another reason besides space and finances for Disney to make them disappear. While most people are clean and neat there are a few people who are shall we say "Messy Marvins". Imagine the problems that could cause in a bug prone area like Florida :scared:

Whoa, seems like a lot of ppl are against the the fridge swap, lol, i was going to inquire about this but after reading all this, i think i will just pay my 10.00 a day, lol

we used a fridge from the swap a couple of years ago and it was a great experience. we picked it up at the luggage storage site and the next swapper met me to pick it up from us at pop centuryt resort. it also saved us $100 for 10 nights and also had a toaster a coffee maker as well. everyone involved in the swap was very nice. this is budget board right and $10 a night can add up. also was a nice size fridge and freezer and helped cut down on eating out expenses as well.

There is no way a person too cheap to rent a fridge is going to leave the bellman a good tip.

I disagree.

I am big on leaving a decent tip since I used to work as a server. I am "too cheap" to rent a fridge at a value and I gave the bell man $5 bucks when he dropped off, and then again when he picked up the fridge. I've heard $1 per bag is a standard tip for a bellman. A fridge is large and bulky so I figured $5 would suffice. What would you tip?

That $10 was a lot cheaper than the $40 it would have cost me to rent a fridge for four days.

My guess would be that not everyone is turning them in, but rather just leaving them in the room and they are mistakenly being taken where all the regular fridges are stored. Not everyone is going to notice that a fridge is the wrong color or brand....

Me too, exactly. I felt the same way! A generous tip was still much less than rental cost.

If Disney is disposing of fridges, I think they should just make it be known that fridges will no longer be stored. I would think that would be the proper way and well within their rights.
This. I was signed up for a fridge swap for our trip in May; the fridge is one of the ones that has been "lost" & a couple people on the swap thread are considering buying a new one to start it up again.

My opinion on the swaps is if Disney allows them (which they have been up until recently, it seems) there's nothing wrong with it. $10/night adds up, and there are often other items like coffee makers or toasters included with the swaps, which you can't rent from Disney.

But that is just even more junk for luggage services to store. I'm sure they don't have infinite room back there.

Because "you" are talking smack about how "you" think it is tacky for someone to save a few dollars by doing a fridge swap, or that all people that do swaps are too cheap to offer good tips... but here "you" are "yourself" on a budget board that is known for trying to offer ways to save Disers a buck or two. I didn't realize budget friendly ideas had a class associated to them. I find it ironic that anyone who is coming to the budget board would have the gall to come out and call someones idea of savings tacky when they themselves are on a budget board. Saving is savings and if you are going to knock it in this day in age than why in the heck are you even on a budget board to begin with? I am not intending to come off like I smart mouth, I just don't get what a persons intentions are who comes on here to bad mouth the swaps, being that it is on a budget board. It just doesn't add up in my mind.

"you" was not directly towards you, I didn't check to see if you were one of the ones that posted this prior to me responding.

Why is it ironic?

There are a lot of ways to save money that don't make extra work for the hotel staff. It's the lack of consideration for the CMs that people are taking issue with -- not the desire to save money.

Actually, coming to the budget board always costs me money because I see something on sale and end up buying it. But mostly I come here for the laughs! (like refrig. swaps, crockpotting in hotel rooms, salad bars at the fixins station and all that good stuff.)

Right. Because those subjects are just running rampant on the board. :sad2: Why would you even feel the need to post something like that other than to just be snarky?

I don't think everyone uses the same definition of "budget" that you do. Doing things on a budget doesn't have to mean doing them as cheaply as possible. It can also mean having a plan and sticking to it. I don't find anything remotely ironic or hypocritical about frowning on any particular practice discussed simply because it's on the "budget" board.

True. But as long as the owner of the disboards and the webmasters allow the fridge swaps, who are we to condemn the people who take advantage of them?

BTW, the disboards are not the only Disney fan website and there are many others that also permit fridge swaps. The disboards just happen to be the largest board and so there are more swaps. Or at least there *were* more swaps.

We are still allowed to have opinions about the swaps, even if they're allowed on the Dis.
