I was in a swap at POP and the fridge went missing. I have been checking back and it is still missing. I thought I would look into other swaps and see if anyone had my dates. Out of like 17 swaps....only 2 (I think) were still active. All the other swaps say they are missing:confused3
I think this is crazy...if 15 are missing, then there should be plenty in luggage services...unless there is a crazy fridge theif stealing them and selling them on craigslist:lmao:

My guess is Disney didn't like the practice and they conveniently got lost, especially if there was a bit of a break between swappers. Can't say I blame them. :confused3

I agree. Why would they continue to provide storage for these refrigerators (and coffee makers and other things) and bell services to retrieve them, when they are essentially losing $$?

Thats fine...but I just wonder where all the 15 plus fridges are:confused3
Maybe they are taking them over to lost and found when they get turned back in:lmao:

Or they could be in a dumpster, or in the landfill. Wouldn't shock me... nor would I blame them.

The fridge swaps always seemed, I'm sorry, a little tacky to me. Why would anyone think that bell services wants to deal with all these swaps? It's not like the Disers are doing the work... the poor luggage guys are. I'm sure the fridges are inconvenient.

Hmm...extra tips? Assuming people are being honorable about it, they'll get tipped to bring it, take it, bring it to someone else, take it away, bring it to yet another person, etc etc etc...

I somehow doubt it is worth $1 of their time. ;)

:lmao::lmao::lmao:You're joking, right?

These are the same people that won't pay for a room with a fridge...I doubt they're going to tip the poor guy that has to deliver it.

I don't blame Disney one bit for making the fridges "disappear". You want a fridge in your room, pay for one or bring a cooler.

There is no way a person too cheap to rent a fridge is going to leave the bellman a good tip.

I guess I never really read a Fridge Swap thread.

I did not know that luggage services were having to deal with that. I just thought it was kind of a hand it off to the next person thing.

I guess it makes sense that people leave/arrive at different times, but I don't agree that luggage services should be hauling them around.

well I for one, am not to cheap to rent it. But I do resent $10 a day for a fridge barely large enough to hold a can of pop and runs loud in a place I put down good money at. I gave the man $10 bucks to bring it and $10 back. BUT I coulda had thiers free since I'm diabetic and need to store insulin

But you had two options rather than participate in one of these sketchy fridge swaps: 1) Get the free medical fridge, or 2) Stay somewhere else.

That's the weird thing about these swaps. Personally, when I go on vacation, I always look at the room amenities and decide whether I like what they have to offer. If not, I book somewhere else.

I thought the fridges in the fridge swaps were the same size as the Disney one...are they bigger?

I find it kinda funny that all of you talking smack about the fridge swaps are on the Budget Board. You all are entitled to your own opinions, but it's just ironic.

We used the fridge swap one time (also arranged one for a friend who was arriving a day later). The previous time we had a free fridge as our dd had medication that required it to be refrigerated.

We did not have room services hauling a fridge around for us. We stayed at the Movies and walked over to the Sports (dd & I). We asked for the fridge at Luggage Services, borrowed a cart and walked the fridge over to our room. To borrow a cart, we had to sign a paper that we would return it. We were able to return it to LS at the Movies. When our friend arrived, we did the same thing.

We tipped the cm's when borrowing and returning the fridges.

Please don't generalize that all people who use a "free" fridge, do not give tips or expect cm's to "haul" things for them.

It was a great convenince for us and we appreciated it.

If Disney is disposing of fridges, I think they should just make it be known that fridges will no longer be stored. I would think that would be the proper way and well within their rights.

I had the impression a lot of the swappers go to the luggage area and get the fridge themselves, and bring it to their own room on a cart or something...I don't think they necessarily tip in that case ;)
