What if Someone Joins Us At Last Minute?

We have an ADR for four at CM for dinner. I have a friend who lives in the area and may be able to swing over to join us that night. I tried to change our ADR to a ressie for five, but there isn't one available. I'd hate to give up the ADR only to have my friend not be able to make it after all.

What would happen if we showed up at the desk with five people when our ADR is only for four? Would they turn us away?

I'm going to keep trying to get the ADR for five people, but in the meantime, I'd appreciate your thoughts.

Going from 4 to 5 requires a different table size unlike going from 3 to 4.

At some restaurants they ma be able to accommodate the extra person at others you may be turned away especially during a busy season. I have seen parties who tried to add people turned away at some restaurants.

There are many things that could happen, but most likely with a popular place like CM, the extra person will be turned away. Not everyone, just 1.

I understand your situation, my bff from school lives in the area and always wants to join us but never really knows what day. It has been hit or miss, I try and plan an extra for our ressie on resort restaurants, but you never know.
Last vacation she was turned away because she insisted on a day I hadn't planned on. :confused3

You can try, but just be warned and warn your friend that if he/she comes they may have to wait until you are done eating to visit.

Thanks to you both for your responses. I guess I'll keep trying for a ressie for 5 and also encourage her to nail down a time when we can visit.

Call Disney Dining. While you probably will not find a new ADR for 5 people, sometimes they can add one to your current ADR. I was able to do this (also going from 4 to 5) at Ohana and a few other restaurants (even though there were no "new" reservations available) when my brother decided to join us for a few days at the last minute.

It's not just the table size, it's restaurant capacity. Chef Mickey's is always insanely crowded so I would be surprised if you could just walk up with an extra person without a long wait.

I would keep trying for that ADR for 5. It's always OK to show up with one LESS person so you would be covered in both cases.
