16 y.o. doesn't drive yet, so no liscence. Are school IDs ok, or just the fact that they're travelling with parents ok ?

Hadn't thought about this until just now.

All thought appreciated.

If someone is under 18, they don't need any ID to travel. It might not be a bad idea to bring one just in case, though.

We've never had trouble flying without ID'sfor the children. Their schools don't issue ID's. I inquired about a state ID, but PA told me they don't issue them to kids under 16, so until I get them passports, they have no ID's.

You do not need picture IDs for any children under 18. You might want to check with your Motor Vehicle agency to see if they issue a "non-drivers" license. In NJ, you can apply for one if you are 17 or older. I know that when my mother needed a state-issued ID to travel she want to the motor vehicle agency in PA and obtained one (she does not drive).

I am a middle school band director who just last month had to send a kid home for jumping out of a ride and being thrown out of the park(what a gooberhead!). The airline checked my id but the 12 year old did not need one at all.

From one teacher to another, I know what you mean! You wonder, would that kid do that with his parents there? Amazing what some kids will do.

According to the TSA, children under 18 do not need ID's.

TSA Access Requirements
::yes::
The TSA actually didn't want to look at my 2 DD's IDs at first because they thought they were under 18 (they are both over).

In Illinois, the DMV does issue Id's for a fee. I thinkit is 20 dollars. My daughter is the only one in our family that does not have a driver's license, so I am planning on gettng her an ID. The card is good for 5 years, so it will get her through until she gets her license.
