What HP Movies should I watch in advance of going to Diagon Alley?

I'm on book 4 right now. Hoping to finish rereading by the 26th. I might watch the movies too but we'll see.

We go in December. I'm rereading the books, I started Sorcerer's Stone a few days ago, about 1/3 of the way through. I also suggested to my sister (going with her and the nieces) that over thanksgiving we do a Harry Potter movie binge-a-thon. (Her kids have read the books - I think in kindergarten and 1st grade).

Never understood why JK had to change name of first book in America. Real name is Philosophers stone in UK. Yet Sorcers stone in US. Sorry bad spelling lol.
Just curious why two different name.

I think I read somewhere that the general consensus in the States was that "Philosopher" had no magical connotations to the demographic population that was previewing the book, whereas using the word Sorcerer did seem more magical and mystical.

I think that's correct. Here in the US a philosopher is somebody who tries to answer questions like what is the meaning of life, and has no connection to the magical world world that HP is set in.

And I read that too.

That's what I'd heard too. In Canada it's the Philosopher's Stone too. I just finished re-reading the first one last night and I'm heading to my sister's house tonight to watch a movie or two. :cool1:

ah i see. Well even in UK I always thought Philosphers stone was a strange name for the book :) So many other titles she could have done. Yet its JK Rowling so who am i to judge lol.

Saying that first book I just thought was ok. But after the first book omg they get better and better and better.
Only one I was not so keen on was order of phoenix. Felt very different from other books and just not as good.
That said I have read them a few times. Damn I need to go to Orlando again lol.

I agree that the movies are good but the books are amazing! I have read them a number of times and will start reading them again soon so that I am done before we leave for Uni next month. Anyone else have that totally weird sensation of wanting to hurry through the last book because the last quarter of the book is so great, but also trying to read slowly because you don't want to get to the end and be done with the series? The weirdest part is that I know that I can just read them again, but I get so caught up in the story that I just don't want it to end yet. My husband is not a reader (doesn't enjoy reading AT ALL), but has read the whole series 3 times. :)

I know exactly what you mean...
Also I know some that think they will hate HP and start to read the books and think Wow.
It really does put you in a different world. I wish I could find another book that does this for me also.

I was scared final book would be a let down. It was far from it.. Amazing book. Again last film was quite good, but or me the battle at the end was much better in the book.

Ok 2 questions..
This may just be me but when I read the book I never imagined the dragon in Gringots to be like Albino colour. Did it say in book it was this colour? No big deal maybe, but kinda wished for film and new DA it was not Albino. Either some cool Red or Green colour. Just me being picky lol.

I read books before I watched the films. I am probably in minority here. I hated Rupert as Ron.
In the books 'for me# Ron was much better and I felt Rupert made him seem silly and just a bit of an idiot.
I know it is just my interpretation as JK was thrilled with the casting. Just the way he played Ron did not seem how I had it in my mind from reading the books.

Emma as Hermione SPOT ON.. Also Hellena is exactly Bellatrix for me :)

One last thing. Please let them Finally make some Dobby stuff to buy in DA... I love Dobby!

from the book - 'the beasts's scales had turned pale an flaky during its long incarceration under the ground; its eyes were milkily pink'. so it doesn't say albino, just that it lost its tan!! maybe a few days in the florida sun will fix that up!!

I'd say Rupert did a fine job of *playing* Ron - he's easily the best actor of the three. But Ron's part was *written* terribly. He seemed to be not much more than comic relief for most of the series, while Ron is far more than that in the real story, playing sulfur to Hermione's quick silver.
(Edit - for some odd reason, the software originally masked out the last two words without a space.)

***********.

Fair point that. His character for the film was written as a bit slap stick. In the books there is much more depth to him. Of course he could make me laugh in the book.. I don't know he just seemed to have more about him in the book.
